like rats and feral cats, they do not serve a civilized purpose and bring only negatives.
Yes they do. They keep a balance in the environment by eating all sorts of invasive insects, plants, rodents, fruits and marine pests. They only seem to be bothrrsome because they are so successful living in and around human settlements like pigeons. However this is due to both the success of humans AND racoons.
Feral cats on the otherhand really are a problem as they shouldn't even be out in the wild in north america.
Some are. The only reason dogs dont seem to be a problem is you spent billions of dollars on animal control over the last 100 years. You continue to have dog pounds and extensive adoption networks to prevent them from running at large. Nothing like this exists for racoons. Feral dogs used to be a huge problem. Unlike racoons which are usually shy, feral dogs are more territorial and less afraid of humans. They are a HUGE problem and a major source of rabies, worms and other infections in the third world where animal control programs are weak and almost nonexistant. This idea that dogs and cats are clean is a western perspective. They are viewed as pest animals in most parts of the world. Infact if you ask people in Africa or central and south America and asia what are the dirtiest animals i guaruntee dog and cat will be top 5 alongside rats.
