He's going to be impeached.

He won't be found guilty and forcibly removed however.
I give up. I tried. I used to go to rallies when I moved to Virginia to try and further my knowledge of American politics but this part of it makes no gosh damned sense at all.

He's basically being indicted and will face trial in the Senate. It's almost 100% certain that they will not get the required 2/3rds guilty votes required to convict and therefore he'll continue to be in office until he's voted out or his next term is up.

CMNH tried his best to explain it to me the other day but I still don't understand.

What are the repercussions of impeachment if he isn't removed from office? What's the point if everything remains the same?

That's a bit like saying "what's the point of a trial if the jury won't sentence him to jail even though the evidence showed the criminal committed the murder."

You still go through the process. Because the record shows he did what he's accused of.

Well yeah. Trial and retribution. You go on trial in front of a jury for a crime of which you are found guilty or not guilty for.

This is what I'm getting at. You go to a court, you have to scrub graffiti with community service, go to jail etc. If he carries on as president then where is the punishment if he's been noted as breaking the law?

That's Amerika for ya.
The only punishment available for impeachment, is removal of office. Nothing else. So yeah, he's impeached, but not enough votes in the Senate to punish. Much like Clinton - but they impeached anyways.

Not only. Guess who's a historian who gets to write the books on what was actually happening in this era?
