Really cringe some of them. Especially since they're like my age now but JD's still writing cringe lyrics.
They created nu metal which was done to death and for the most part thankfully done now. But I do really still like them for the most part. I've just seen them so many times now it's sort of like going through the motions yelling "I'm so bliiiiiiiiind".
One I went to in Virginia they started with Right Now which really changed it up and I loved.
JD's a nice guy, losing the mother of his kids must have been rough, but he just got on with it.
I know you aren't suicidal, I've learned to read that pretty well over the years so no worries.
i met Korn backstage at Nile Theater in Mesa, AZ...1995? I didn't even know who they were, but a guy I worked with was ALL ABOUT THEM. The show was sold-out when we got there, but my best friend's older brother was a well-known "sound guy" so we name-dropped and the security guy at the 'backstage' door let us in. We watched the show from side-stage, it was a really good show, really enjoyed it, was super-amped to meet the band.
But when they got off-stage it was like a bunch of HS girls...whining about the venue, and they'd just signed with a shoe company and they were whining about the deal...just sounded like a bunch of prima-donna posers.
so not metal. really turned me off to band, and this was right before their meteoric rise to popularity. "duuuuuude. Have you heard Korn?!"
"yeah, they're bitches." LoL. definitely didn't help my popularity.
don't get me wrong, not saying they're not good guys. Just in that moment they weren't what I expected.
Sounds like I'm doing them a disservice when I'm still a fan, I've just seen them so many times it doesn't have the same effect. In adult life they've probably been my biggest obsession band wise, grown up a bit since then and while I get excited about seeing bands it isn't quite like that.

i went backstage at a perfect circle \ nine inch nails concert back in 2000 during their fragility tour. my gf at the time bought backstage passes. trent reznor thanked me for coming. struck up a conversation with me because i was wearing a joy division shirt. he was a nice guy..but i saw maynard being disrespectful to other fans there that wanted to meet him. even making fun of them for idolizing him after they left. i didnt bother trying to talk to him. he was a fucking cunt. danny lohner of nine inch nails was great. so was Billy Howerdel of a perfect circle. as soon as they let fans backstage, they were the first to say hi and thank us for coming. . by the way, interesting enough a female that was there with the band called trent "mike" which made me turn my head a few times because that is my name too. that is when i learned his real name
no idea. long time ago, but it seems like the 'deal' was that they got a shitload of free clothes and shoes, but what they wanted was $$.
Maynard is so up himself, he won't even allow pics at his gigs. Saw APC in Sacramento at a festival and not disputing his musical ability at all but it did make me proud that everyone left the APC stage early because NIN were finishing the night on the other stage and everyone wanted to get a decent spot. He was also an asshole when I saw Tool. But again. I love him as a musician, just not as a person.
Joy Division fan too, huh? Do we have the same parents?

yeah..only someone that relates to them can truly like their music. and i agree, maynard makes great music.. ill give him that..people call a perfect circle tool lite but i prefer the music under apc over tool. have you heard of adam monroe? he made some great apc covers on youtube. so good that billy of apc saw him and had him join his band ashes divide

you're not going to believe this, but I've met Maynard a couple times. Always been super-cool to me, fun guy to talk to...completely chill, we kind of have the same sense of humor. I was at what was (AFAIK) the first show that Puscifer show ever played. It was at bar in Cottonwood. My roommate's cousin worked at a little bar/club there, and he called and said that Maynard was coming in to play a set that afternoon. I worked a weird shift schedule,and I was off work, so we grabbed "best friend who's brother is a sound guy" and booked north.
first 2 times, I was introduced by someone, and we know a couple of the same people in music and BJJ.
But the 3rd time I saw him was at a BJJ show and he recognized me and said Hi.

My only claim to fame with Trent was going to his house in New Orleans. I wsn't invited in for tea and scones, but interesting I was told he has the plinth from the Sharon Tate murder house with helter skelter sprayed on it.

I only know Joy Division because my 'dancer' ex-gf was big in to them. She was so disappointed when I put together a mix tape and the only Joy Division song on it was "Love Will Tear Us Apart".
still the only song I recognize. But the trip down memory lane has me listening to The Mountain Goats now.

That's really cool to hear he was cool. I always say I wish he was a terrible musician/vocalist etc because I just don't like his arrongance but I would definitely like the chance to have my mind changed. All 3 of his bands I'm into. I know everyone goes nuts for Tool live so I'm not convinced that they're crap live at all. I was dead excited to be watching them as the sun set behind the stage while they were on but he called us all a dirty bunch of hippies and was just in a bad mood I think. You know what I mean, if you're going to see Tool for the first time it's the perfect setting.

I'm such a Trent tramp I know, I actually really liked Joy Division but their best work was NIN covering Dead Souls for The Crow

I do love that track. Ian Curtis spawned New Order so all wasn't lost.
The movie was good, the actor looked just like him. Interesting look into the Manchester rave scene as it kicked off.

I had a great time and conversation with Maynard years ago at the Axis of Justice show at the Avalon in LA. I was backstage and he was off in a corner, and a bunch of groupie scenesters were backstage trying to talk to him (much to his dismay). Some backstage security members got rid of them, and left pretty much an empty hallway with him there, and me (with a small group of people) on the other side. Him and I locked eyes and did that head nod thing, and I could tell that he was like "oh great, another fan type"... I approached him and said "hey I don't mean to bother you, but, what's it like training with Rickson Gracie?"... When I tell you, his eyes lit up like Christmas and we spoke for 15 minutes about Jiu Jitsu training, the LA BJJ scene, Rickson..... It was incredible. He was so engaged about it, and was excited to talk about it. He was performing a few numbers that evening and his management came and got him, but he was the nicest dude.
