There was an owner of a construction company on the radio last week saying that he had to back out of several jobs because all local home depots, lumber stores, pharmacies, grocery stores etc... we're sold out of face masks, so he couldn't have his crew scrape popcorn ceilings, do demolition remodels aND other various jobs with dust. I'd imagine he eventually found a source online, but it's pretty ridiculous. From what I've been reading the face masks do little to nothing for those not infected.
FYI
The shortage is in part due to diverting the masks overseas where there is quarantine and large outbreaks.

My lady works in medical and they were told mid january that they could only get 40 masks per month now, they usually go thru over 200 per month. The medical supply reps contacted all the medical facilities around here and told them the same thing. This was back when the only cases were in Wuhan.

What stores had in stock is all gone, although it seems like most stores didn't carry that many in stock anyways. They are used to being refreshed weekly with fresh stock of masks. Some medical people went to the stores and bought up the masks many weeks ago, so the shortage isn't entirely due to public panic at all.

TLDR buy stock in mask making companies...because when this blows over there is gonna be a lot of medical services and contractors stocking up on a shit load of masks so they can continue business as usual and not be caught on mask rations.

I haven’t seen any filter shortages in TX yet, but I was thinking I should go grab a couple boxes. Kind of a secondary response I guess to “gotta get before they’re gone”. I have to think about keeping our employees safe/healthy, and I consider these filters a component of our company’s policy regarding employee safety.
Having 2 weeks out so you don't add to the run on the system is smart. Someone in this thread said they were low key buying a little extra each time they went to the store for the last few weeks. That's a pretty responsible way to do it. Just keep your stocks topped off because the threat is slightly higher. But running out and buying on misinformation is bad. Masks are the one that really stands out to me.

It would be good if this crisis would start sick people wearing mask as a social construct here in the USA and everybody washing their hands better than we currently do. In LAX most of the alcohol hand sanitizer stations were out in the bathrooms often didn't have soap. That was yesterday. Airports are already a nidus of infection. 70+% a flu cases could be stopped if we just did these things already. This is good practice anyways.

People who use chronic prescription should probably be getting their refills now. That way they aren't in the system 30 and 90 days from now.
Same with doctor visits. Make your well check ups now but not 30 or 90 days from now until we know how that's gonna shake out.
this is like doing your well exam in the spring typically stay away from the flu season. You shouldn't be there with the sick people and the system is busy anyway.

That's pretty interesting. That's the kind of stuff I have no idea about. I only know one industry and one segment of it. Interconnected nature of the global marketplace is going to show itself in weird ways I bet

Im sure. but I have been reading your post and listening to what you're saying. I take the time to read your links.

My point is that it's not really the middle in general parlance. Hell i don't even want to argue with you about it to change your mind. I find your posts interesting. I hate that you're in the middle of the damn outbreak there, but find the social response coming just as unknown and wild as you do.

But if we are gonna sticky (site promote) a thread ,as has been requested, that has real public health results I am going to call out the areas I disagree medically. I see the posts about bioweapon and what not panic inducing and not benign. That's my concern.

You've got PHD. Pathogenic specialists in these videos and all over the place calling this engineered.
The WHO & CDC are parroting disgusting falsehood to the pubkic EVERY DAY.
"Go ahead and attend local events, there's no IMMEDIATE danger." ????
Anyone of prominence saying otherwise is dead shortly thereafter or "silenced".
Really, what will it take to bring you to the force Luke?

Speaking of masks Splinty @Splinty , I spent $1000 and drove 700 miles to get some, bring them back to Seattle, and quadruple my money.
This is the kinda stuff that shuts down earth.

When schools shut down, parents stay home, work stops, contracts stop, mortgages stop etc.

Gimme a sec....

When I'm dying in a ditch, my voice sounds like Vader from disease, I look like Vader (without a helmet), and you stand over my dying corpse in a $300 dollar Israeli gas mask looking like Vader saying, "Splinty, I am your father...bitch"

Very interesting video about diseases trapped in ice from before humans were here.

Just read that they are about to start closing schools in Oregon.
Costco has been a mess lately, they ran that story on friday...I bet Costco had their best weekend ever...Buy Costco stock on monday

I drive by an intersection near costco and it is 10x more traffic than normal

I rolled thru there last week sometime and won't be going back for awhile, place is intense enough as it is without tom dick and harry mouth breathing in my face.

I didn't realize we had so many 70+ yr old women with previous bad health immune systems.

I guess that justifies all this fear.

I've been interacting with a bunch of old grandma's, who are the most likely to die from this.

My bad.

What's the timeline here? If the TV public health people are right, that this becomes endemic, then we are all getting it eventually.

Y'all need a cut off time.
Your logic is starting to creep in here. You feel in months, perhaps weeks this will all be blown over and you don't want to be on the side of wrong so you're trying to nix my bet.
