What I don't get about the republican voter is their absolute outrage at taxing the rich.
A guy earning 30k a year is screaming blue murder that it's an affront to tax someone 52% on earnings AFTER they've earned their first 20 million in a year.
How were they so conditioned to think this way? Its mind boggling.
yes this is very interesting. in Brazil these dynamics have long been studied and it’s known that part of the middle class, which is the part of the population that influences public opinion the most, likes to act like vassals of the elite for no reason at all. This arrangement among elite and upper middle class controls the media and the state fooling the middle class into thinking they’re part of a powerful ruling class but in reality they’re representing the elite’s interests and acting against their own.
An upper mid class representative making good money believes he holds social power and starts parroting elite-friendly discourse but it only takes one streak of bad luck and a couple months without a job to put an end to his daydream while if he stood up for his own class interests he could help creating an overall sustainable national growth model and while his little investment fund would earn a bit less on interest, he would live in a better society with much lower living costs overall.
I don’t know what plays into it in the US but it probably has to do with forty years of conservative brainwashing and the glorification of the self made entrepreneur character. People defend an arbitrary notion of free market thinking they could one day become a millionaire but they actually spend their lifetime getting fucked by the financial system and die in debt defending the monopolies that fucked them.
