She's 21, works in the healthcare industry, and school from home online.
Right now she's at home quarantined because hospitals are 2x capacity.

I think she'll be alright in the end, all we can do is hope & pray, right?
But I'm concerned about my buddy as he had a stroke awhile back; body doesn't work like it used to after that.

I sent him this message as a pick-me-up

Just did "Laugh" which was probably inappropriate but you know where it was coming from.

I hope your buddy is okay but the way it stands at the moment so many of us are going to get this. My lungs are shot from 30 years of smoking and this medication so I should probably be taking it more seriously than I am, and I'm taking it pretty seriously.

Naming your kid 'Chet' is child abuse. It's not his fault he turned out like this.

It really shows that Australia is America's little cum bucket that we haven't banned travel from there.

The US is completely stuffed - there's a systemic failure to test and your broken healthcare system will soon be overwhelmed. If Australia was serious about futile containment and could actually operate independently, then the ban would already be in place.

Australia is stuffed too - I'm pointing out the futility of banning travel from Iran, Italy etc. but then just letting Yanks in. It makes a mockery of the whole policy.

Why bother banning Italians when the US is about to be even worse?

I think all airline travel needs to halt at this point. Not virus related but I missed my own mother's funeral last year because of some health issues I had to deal with. I wish I could have been there obviously but I don't feel an ounce of guilt.

Self preservation and that of your loved ones is what matters most, right?

Sorry to hear that.

I'm guessing you can tell where I stand on this though by my screen name. We're all going to get it, so let's just rip the band-aid off after we've given the health authorities a bit more time to prepare.

Seriously,.I didn't go out for days, I have such a stupid cough going on I didn't want to frighten everyone. I'm not spazzing out about it just yet, but I nearly am. My lungs are in horrific shape.

You don't want to rip off the bandaid all at once.
As has been said, got to flatten the curve. That's how you give time. literally just soap water wear a mask when you're sick... And apparently as it spreads, social distancing. Just cancel big events. So you don't get hot spots all at once.

Well be fine btw. Our ICU bed/population ratio is off the chain.

Well that's a comfort. My doctor's surgery is an absolute sh*t show tring to book an appointment...even before this Corona kicked off.

At least the hospitals are prepared.

Has anyone seen someone flopping around on the ground in the mall or the middle of the road yet?

We aren't. The lack of family physician access leads to overuse of the emergency department. The panic will make the emergency department even more. Plus we aren't really rolling out testing yet even though the stuff is made. It needs to get to the rest of the country.

But if you get really sick from this thing you have a better chance here than most places

Ok, sorry.
Don't know if you're in an ER type scenario with patients yelling at you demanding to be tested but I hope not.

Only thing I will know difference wise is if I get a fever, I have all the symptoms even though I know I don't have it.

I will say, Mike Pence seems like he's being brilliant about this. I don't like him at all normally, but he seems really genuine about this.

I haven't been watching. What's he doing? sparkuri @sparkuri also thought it was a genius move and I didn't really understand why
Just seems to be putting people's minds at rest.

Our govenor Gavin Newsom is a staunch anti Trump anti Republican et al, but he even said that The White House under Pence are putting things into action that he promised after lengthy personal phone calls.

Press conference I watched a bit ago, Mike looked really genuine. And I really don't like him normally.

You'll be as equipped as anyone to respond to it, but you're already more fucked in containing it than all but a select few places, so the US should logically be on any travel ban list already.

I do understand the nuances of the US' retarded healthcare system a bit better than you might think. The major malfunction is certainly not the actual level of care itself. It generally has better outcomes once you're in care than anywhere else. It's just everything else about the system that sucks.

The alternative here is much worse. Government run health care in the US is fucking terrible. I will gladly pay and get quality healthcare compared to shit free healthcare.

I get your point. I'm just responding mostly to the idea that we can ever get ready and then rip the bandaid off. It will always overwhelm us if you do it all at once. Plain old regular flu Can do the same but you see that come in a slow building wave, plus of course we have lots of testing there.
Regardless you never want to pull the Band-Aid off. The cats out of the bag and you need to slow the spread even if you can't stop it.

The testing seems to be key as South Korea has shown us.
