I get your point. I'm just responding mostly to the idea that we can ever get ready and then rip the bandaid off. It will always overwhelm us if you do it all at once. Plain old regular flu Can do the same but you see that come in a slow building wave, plus of course we have lots of testing there.
Regardless you never want to pull the Band-Aid off. The cats out of the bag and you need to slow the spread even if you can't stop it.

The testing seems to be key as South Korea has shown us.
I did at least acknowledge that we need to give the health authorities time.

I'll temper what I'm saying to mean that ripping the band aid off means conceding the idea of containment, not conceding the idea of slowing the spread. I know health authorities already know this, I am talking the public.

You've seen my point about them shaming the doctor here. That sort of thinking and reporting is still driving panic - the virus could be stopped if only a few evil people would stop spreading it. It's why that toilet paper stuff is worse here (although apparently catching on elsewhere). It's been fed by a false narrative driving an even bigger breakdown in trust.

They need to move to what Merkel has done and be like 'look, you're probably going to get it but we've still got to win time'. I don't think attempting to slow it by lying about containment is smart.

Yeah announced it this morning, and straight away the plebs came out in droves, if I see one more little old dear upset she can't get her basic shopping I'm punching the next panic buying dickwad I see in their cunt face face, selfish arseholes.
This is what's fucking me off. I've definitely got more TP, water and canned goods than I normally would but I've seen people with trolleys literally full of water and TP barging their way around like Billy Big Bollocks.
It really is so very selfish. If we took a second to take a step back I'm sure there would be enough to go around. Humanity failure when at a time like this we need to pull together...from 6ft away.

My wife went to Costco this morning after dropping the kids off for school. The parking lot was full, she finally got a spot, she went in and there was a 2 hour wait to check out. She said fuck that.

Trudeau self-isolating after wife Sophie develops fever, gets tested for coronavirus

Trudeau self-isolating after wife Sophie develops fever, gets tested for coronavirus

BY AMANDA CONNOLLY GLOBAL NEWS

Posted March 12, 2020 12:02 pm

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is self-isolating after his wife, Sophie Gregoire Trudeau, developed flu-like symptoms and got tested for the new coronavirus known as COVID-19.

In a press release on Thursday, the Prime Minister’s Office said she has received a test for the new coronavirus after her symptoms emerged following a trip to the U.K. last night. While the prime minister has no symptoms, he will continue to self-isolate until the test results are back.

“The doctor’s advice to the prime minister is to continue daily activities while self-monitoring, given he is exhibiting no symptoms himself. However, out of an abundance of caution, the prime minister is opting to self-isolate and work from home until receiving Sophie’s results,” the release said.

“The Prime Minister will spend the day in briefings, phone calls, and virtual meetings from home, including speaking with other world leaders and joining the special COVID-19 cabinet committee discussion.”

As well, the PMO also said all in-person meetings scheduled for Thursday and Friday for the First Minister’s Meeting between Trudeau, federal officials and the provincial and territorial premiers are being postponed

I've literally only ever been to one Costco just to check it out, I can barely cope with the mentality of a general shopper at Safeway so sod that.

Good for wife. I understand the cost motive, but two hours?

Listening to the radio earlier and some woman was on talking about her family members visiting Ireland from the U.S, apparantly panicing and buying plane tickets back to the U.S after Trump announced the Euro travel ban.

He announced the U.K being exempt but forgot to mention Ireland, so they shit themselves and bought 6 grand plane tickets home, only for him to tweet out later he forgot Ireland wasn't part of the U.K but that Ireland was exempt as well.

Can't make it up.
