Use of recombinant interferon alfa-2b in the treatment of basal cell carcinoma. - PubMed - NCBI

Chinese doctors are using Recombinant Interferon Alpha 2B (IFNrec) to treat Covid-19 patients, but Cuban biotech didn't develop it specifically for Covid-19. That article I linked is from 1995.

It took me 15 seconds to find the truth, yet this dude is pushing misleading information to criticize American military spend.

This is much more about preventing simultaneous outbreaks on all the Forts/Bases/Camps all at once.
They can institute gate measures and manage singe Fort outbreaks. But they are, by design, centrally organized crowds in the barracks.

This is social isolation.

I think I'd rather just die than take interferon and deal with that poisonous shit.

Color me skeptical.
Especially regarding the grandstanding of this tweet.
The NIH alone funds 31 billion in public research grants.
Cubas entire GDP is 87 billion.

This ignores the private US drug market that takes in 1100 billion (yes thats the number) each year in revenue ( I can't find the portion that goes back into r&d) and has developed around 50% of ALL NEW DRUGS in the world in the last 20 years.

Is Cuba spending more than 31 billion on health research? Does Cuba have some significant secondary and tertiary stream of funding and research for world class labs?

A google to confirm this tweet only finds Cuba government statements about Cuban derived and created drugs etc etc. Basically they have a statement that they are self independent and don't need nobody to fight Coronavirus. It is unclear what those drugs are and any details on efficacy.

I doubt Cuba knows anything about treating Covid that Chinese doctors on the front lines for months and months don't know.

Found it. From the guys same twitter one hour before the above tweet, suggesting this is the story he has repackaged with the theme.
Chinese Doctors Are Using Cuban Antivirals Against Coronavirus

The drug is here, available by many others:
Interferon alfa-2b - Wikipedia

Here's where tweets and blogs get muddy with reality:
Since Jan. 25, the ChangHeber Company located in Changchun city has been producing the famous Cuban antiviral, which is one of 30 medicines chosen by the National Health Commission for its potential to cure respiratory diseases.

Currently, IFNrec is applied against HIV-related infections, recurrent respiratory papillomatosis, genital warts, and hepatitis types B and C. It is also effective in therapies against different types of cancer.
This is just a repackaging of the news sparkuri @sparkuri gave a month ago where Chinese doctors were trialing other antivirals, including this one. Then the tweets and blogs add their grandstanding and politics

Did cuba invent this or discover it...nope...
Interferon alfa 2b is an antiviral or antineoplastic drug, that was originally discovered in the laboratory of Charles Weissmann at the University of Zurich. It was developed at Biogen, and ultimately marketed by Schering-Plough under the tradename Intron-A. It has been used for a wide range of indications, including viral infections and cancers.
The Chinese just have a manufacturing arrangement with their communist bros.

What happens when I search the Cuban brand name of that drug (IFNrec)?

A yes...internet politics.

Check my post above about the details of what's being done (antivirals ARE being tested, but it's sparkuri @sparkuri that learnt us a month ago). But it's not about Cuba having a breakthrough. They DO have a manufacturing capability of antivirals and famously Cuba does export doctors to its communist bros that don't have doctors. That's all true. But there doesn't appear to be some evidence of new treatment and this def isn't that Cuba is a model of health research funding by this particular case.

right? like how hard is it criticize American military spending without invoking COVID-19?

how about the fact that we spend more on 'defense' than the next 15 countries combined...seems like going Fake News is just working too hard.

All sourced from a month ago as you go farther back, repackaged in blogs and spreading this week so the dates now say its new.
This is the stuff kneeblock kneeblock @jason7Ǯ (your stupid name change!) studies and this a great example of misinformation influencing.
He posts SCOOP. Suddenly resurrected news is NEW again but now its repackaged as Cuba having a breakthrough. Googles algorithm prioritizes hot traffic and all these repackaged blogs take priority on page one over the original news cycle, making it hard to find the original.

Also, this is how influence and innuendo works lol from his workers blog link:

By the way, the man who put Fidel Castro on the path of biotechnology in the early 1980s was a Black Democratic congressman from Texas, Mickey Leland. He brought with him to Havana an eminent oncologist from Houston who used interferon in the treatment of cancer.

Leland was deeply hurt by his country’s government hostility to Cuba and considered the blockade not only counterproductive but inconsistent with U.S. values. “The United States,” he said, “should not refuse to sell medicine; the only victims are the sick and the helpless.”

Leland, a fighter against poverty in Africa, died in an airplane accident in Ethiopia shortly after uttering these words. Another fact hidden in the news.

Social media isn't bringing us truth and clarity. It's just layman misinformation that spreads the fastest.

CONSPIRACY.

EDIT -

I'm in the rabbit hole.
When did mickey leland say those words and when did he die?

Death
On August 7, 1989, Leland died in a plane crash in Gambela, Ethiopia during a mission to Fugnido, Ethiopia.[3] A total of fifteen people died in the crash. Leland‘s friend and former fellow Texas legislator, Craig Washington, ran for and was elected to his unexpired congressional term in December 1989.

If you rank it by GDP % we are 3rd, behind Saudi and Russia.
But yeah - we spend a lot.
