NYC schools closing for 5 weeks. Teachers will probably be using google classroom and other remote methods.

My son's school closed for 2 weeks. Martial arts is following the school district, but the instructor is teaching everything over zoom. First class today with mom holding the pads. We did great! Actually a harder workout since my son didn't have to switch off to take a turn holding the pads.

Imo a lot more people are going to keep their remote methods around after this and use them more often.

it's interesting to think about which things will get used and maybe become norms like the remote teaching. These are technologies we all kind of dabble with but now they get a trial run that might stick

Yep. At least for martial arts, I can easily see kids on summer vacation still doing their classes -- we'll have to see what happens.

Most important: it's not clear whether they are going to continue to feed the children after tomorrow.
NYC Public Schools will close Monday, March 16, 2020.

But, this part is good, and maybe will include the free/reduced price lunch crowd:
Effective Monday, March 23, Regional Enrichment Centers will be available for the children of first responders, healthcare workers, and our most vulnerable populations, with more details to follow.

My son has a friend who is enrolled in an online high school. He has a lready been asking about it. If this goes well, I hope he doesn't push for that. Social learning is important, also.
