Lyme disease is one that stays with you forever and can creep up later in life with a vengeance. Folks can suffer mental issues, joint point for life if it's not caught early enough.
Yeh I got lymes. Bad example

Still tryna understand your prior comment tho about how it needs to run through everyone

Isnt another option for everyone who currently has it to recover/die and the disease dies off if every citizen could isolate for 14 days?

That's not the point of social distancing. The point of social distancing is to slow the spread so that health systems aren't overwhelmed with a high number of sick patients at one time needing urgent care.

By socially isolating ourselves, we're merely delaying when we'll get it. It will probably infect fewer people overall but that's not really the point.

It wasn't my comment, I was just jumping in out of turn. :p

I'm not convinced that this "herd immunity" approach is the best one right now. I think we need to stop the bleeding to buy us time to come up with proper treatment plans before assuming it won't cause a massive disaster at that level.

Think so? Is it like lymes where once you survive it you're good?
there have been cases of re-infection, not sure of mortality.

but the virus won't disappear. We need herd immunity, or a vaccine.
There's still those people out there that can carry it for longer than 2 weeks...and bats aren't going extinct in that time, either.

here's an article where a solid strategy is laid out...the world is going to be very different going forward.

I get the danger of overload. But I'm not sold on the goals of social distancing being mutually exclusive.

If literally every human had enough eater and food and shelter, and isolated for 14 days, wouldnt that be the end of it?

(Ok I think I get it. Somewhere down the line, it comes back to America. And we are all gonna basically get it at some pointz whether today or 5 years from now.. am I following now?

Ah I see the thickness off bottom graph. So flattening the curve truly is primarily about noy overflowing the system, as opposed to limiting the cases

That's sad

I'm afraid that is not true.

The reason SK was able to get on top of this was pure hard work and money.

It's no surprise that they have tested the most people in the world...bar China...maybe....we don't know...and had the best out comes.

You may be mixing up North Korea with South Korea
I was born in S Korea, I have family there, I speak their language and I watch their news.
They did a good job and not disputing that, it was collective effort of everyone (well, their 20s are same ignorants) and the Korean people have enormous amount of pride with their country.

that being said, the system they live in made it east for them. It’s a wack system which they try to copy the US but with ton of limits.

Most people think S Korea is a free country and most people don’t have a clue on what’s going on. It comes down to lack of 1st and 2nd Amendments, throughout the history, the country was occupied, used as pawns during the Cold War, went through dictators and multiple military coups (including massacre of their own people.

Not overloading the system results in fewer deaths. Italy didn't take action on social distancing quickly enough, their system was overloaded, and their mortality rate is currently about 9.5% when the rest of the world is 1-4%.

We'll never have that collective effort here in the US.

In the meantime we'll have gained treatment and vaccines. Hopefully.

School here in Jacksonville opened back up today online. They gave laptops and hotspots to all the kids who needed them and the buses are driving their routes once a day delivering lunch to the kids who need them.

Self-employed/contract workers are still going to go to work without government help is probably his point and it's a good one.

No gatherings of over 2 people. Only allowed out for exercise once per day, essential shopping, essential work, or for medical need. What else should be done?

People can still go to work.

That's the biggie.

And a lot of 'you should' not you must. Or have to.

its still half in half out.

It will be done by Friday so he might as well do it now.

God knows how many infections he will have stopped if he goes now. But I guess he's still looking at the bottom lone finance wise. Probably going to cling on till the end of the month when it comes to actual payments
