The safest thing to do is have a nationwide shelter in place for 18 months until a vaccine happens. But that isn't happening either, right?
There's also a question of what is necessary and what people are willing to put up with.

Bill Gates funded venture that reviewed the London imperial college paper and while they and others all agree with the same initial lockdown for control of the virus, there is argument about what will happen afterwards with tapering. For instance Bill Gates feels the London imperial college paper is overly pessimistic and his group will be putting out another model that suggests we can come off much faster.

I don't have a way to analyze these models. It's not anything I really understand beyond the executive summaries. But that's what the experts are saying. Everyone agrees on a lockdown and there's a lot of argument about the necessity of various tapers.
Do we bomb china back to the stone age after this?

Zeph @Zeph

"The current guidelines would not have called for me to get tested nor quarantined. It was my extra precaution, out of concern for my damaged lung, that led me to get tested.

Instead of hounding people who got tested and then quarantined themselves, perhaps we need to broaden the testing and quit the finger-wagging."

Damage control. e was worried enough to get tested and then went around for 6 days spreading it. It's not like he couldn't afford to self-isolate. Also wasn't he calling it fake a while back?

I'm watching Cuomo's briefing. After seeing so many Trump press conferences, Cuomo is reminding me what it's like to listen to a literate, adult leader. Not bad for a yankee.
His demeanor is good, but I am hearing him blame the federal government for being caught flat footed by the same issue that caught him flat footed. The NY state government has the authority to have stockpiled PPE, ventilators etc, and they are responsible for evaluating the CON for expanding hospitals etc.
Not preparing for a disaster and then screaming that the next level of management up is not bailing you out fast enough is not impressive leadership IMO.

Solid point I hadn't thought off of heard anywhere yet

by that logic, everyone should quarantine until they get a test.

asymptomatic, only concerned because of pre-existing condition...seems reasonable.

Any of your coworkers taking this route? Our shop has three people gone and collecting this week, no idea when they'll be back. Well we are down seven total but only three confirmed to self isolate and take the benefit.
Not sure. One guy is still hammering away with me. The other is under mandatory isolation, coming back from mexico. Havent talked to him since he returned. I imagine he will apply.

I don't have a dog in this fight. Just sitting in my home in Florida watching news from around the nation. I was just trying to say that how Cuomo Carrie's himself is night and day from Trump. I also don't care, but every time Trump opens his mouth, he talks about the broken system he inherited 3 years ago. Stay safe doc!

Some politicians are slicker than others but they're still politicians. Priority is coming out of rhis looking good, only then worry about public safety, and only because it may look bad on him/her.

I will have to verify these line by line but a doctor friend in New York tells me this is how New York is responding:

New York State just enacted an executive order that:

- Removes physician oversight requirements from NPs, PAs, CRNAs, APRNs.
- Eliminates all hospital bed limits and allows non-hospitals to be used as hospitals, including hospice centers, ASCs, etc.
- Eliminates most restrictions on EMS, including allowing “medical direction” by paramedics.
- Completely suspend malpractice liability except for gross negligence.
- Completely suspend all medical record keeping requirements for patient care or billing if they get in the way of efficient medical care.
- Remove GME and other work hour restrictions.
- All elective cases canceled at hospitals, ASCs, and private offices.
- The state taking control of any hospital that does not comply, with 24h notice.
- Special restrictions on pharmacists dispensing hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine.
- State collecting a list of all licensed healthcare providers.

So far, not liking this California Governor. I'd vote him off Survivor.

Serious question. RaginCajun @RaginCajun Splinty @Splinty and his name I can’t remember( A doc that would do mma events) how are you guys holding up? I hate looking at people that I known for years, must be hell to deal with sick randoms. Keep up the good work. Rest of the forum stay safe. BRB.
Thanks man. It's actually stressful as fuck right now. The facility I work at right now seems to have no real plan for a scenario in which the staff is exposed or tests positive. It seems the only real care is for the patients(which of course is the most important thing) but no care for the workers. I honestly have never seen anything like this before and this is not my first rodeo... I was stuck at work for 2 weeks during Hurricane Katrina with no power and the nurses felt more protected then now.

I think our only plan right now is to quarantine that staff member in accordance with CDC guidelines.
We have made plans for us to rotate certain calls at one week increments and to have first-line people for Coronavirus cases and various departments so that we limit exposure to that one person.
Once that gets overwhelmed then I guess all bets are off

I would argue at this current time, if you are tested you should be in self isolation until your test result comes back.
i'd agree, except we're talking about a Senator in the middle of a national health crisis who was tested purely for conditions of a pre-existing condition, and a 6 day test window. I'm not judging.

What job does a senator do that couldn't be done via teleconference? Don't they vote on behalf of each other or am I remembering my own state political process?

he missed votes because of quarantine. I'm not up on my senate rules since I lost my bid for re-election.
