To be clear, if you show me data I'll mask wearing, I'm all on board. Just show me some data. I'm absolutely not trying to be a contrarian.Hong Kong, Taiwain, Singapore
What about a really, really way fucking cool mask?To be clear, if you show me data I'll mask wearing, I'm all on board. Just show me some data. I'm absolutely not trying to be a contrarian.
But let's put some context to the places you guys keep mentioning. These countries have enormous virus fighting apparatuses. To attribute all of their success to mask or even a plurality is really misrepresenting known data and the extreme measures these countries go to.
First off all of these countries have had the threat of SARS and learned from it. they spun up their testing apparatus and social distancing very very early. This is the exact same stuff we are just now doing and that we all talked about needing to do a month ago in the US. We failed to do that.
In Singapore you are likely to have your temperature tested three to four times just on the way to work. You have your temperature tested at the mass transit, at your work, and at your own apartment building.
when somebody tests positive various technologies such as cell phone tracking technology is used to help isolate and quarantine positive cases. it is used to help identify other contacts and quickly isolate and quarantine them.
The public is socially primed from various reasons including the SARS epidemic and their general culture to follow social distancing and personal hygiene rules all at once.
In the case of South Korea which has had excellent results, and does all of the things I posted above, the population had recently watched a series about a virus outbreak. Then this thing happens and everybody was in some ways primed to fall in line.
Let's compare this to Mardi gras and Fort Lauderdale spring breaks. Let's look at the lack of testing. Let's look at the continued federal deferencing to states who often defer to local counties.
These are enormous differences in social and public health apparatuses.
I stand by for those dozens of mask studies because I really would like to see the data.
but you can't keep referencing these countries as mask countries and non-mask countries. That's sort of arbitrary given all the background here.
What about a really, really way fucking cool mask?
For every mask I don't wear that's one that someone who's high risk can have. Seems relevant to me.All these cunts arguing about whether we should all wear masks. Meanwhile:
Why America ran out of protective masks — and what can be done about it
The point is that for an effective population-wide containment strategy, it would need to be adopted on a large enough scale that we currently don't have the capacity for. The people above arguing that we all need to wear masks are making a useless argument, because we can't all wear masks right now. So I agree with you, cunts like us shouldn't be snapping up scarce masks and keeping them from people who need them. All of these articles popping up in the media demanding we all wear masks are actually doing a lot of harm. For every mask I don't wear that's one that someone who's high risk can have. I feel vindicated.

If you go to Hong Kong or Singapore, every man and his dog is already walking around in a mask. We can't pull that off (tee hee) even if we wanted to right now.
Who's Bill Mitchell? Aside from a moron of course.

"1.8 million people die of diarrhea!" You know how many people get diarrhea in a year Bill? All of them, the entire planet, and most of them a whole bunch of times. Some dude with a shit fetish.

absent data that it's detrimental, what's the risk of wearing a mask?
we could kick out fabric masks if it was a national mandate. The point is that for an effective population-wide containment strategy, it would need to be adopted on a large enough scale that we currently don't have the capacity for.
