Watching trump live now.

he looks like a hormonal teenager in a fat suit
Lol. He has a couple bad moments today, but I'm going to have to respectfully disagree.

Although I consider trump to be a despicable human with severe mental disorders and a hole inside him where his heart once was, I thought the large majority of his presser today was not only okay, but great

Nations with Mandatory TB Vaccines Show Fewer Coronavirus Deaths
Countries with mandatory policies to vaccinate against tuberculosis register fewer coronavirus deaths than countries that don’t have those policies, a new study has found.
‘It’s like the BCG vaccine creates bookmarks for the immune system to use later’
“It’s like the BCG vaccine creates bookmarks for the immune system to use later in life,” Netea said.

As someone that thinks Trump is a buffoon, it's been frustrating to watch this unfold as people are really going out of their way to make it seem like he handled this worse than anyone else has.

Who can you call to try to get some ears on this? Seems like a completely logical thing to do to get a start on additional treatment options.
I read that Bill Gates is opening multiple facilities to develop multiple vaccine options and just eat the loss on those that don’t work. Getting things done in parallel sounds like a wise move IMHO.

Much smarter and more influential people than me are already working on this I'm sure.
I'm just voicing my vote for a more centralized campaign and response to the pandemic.

Coronavirus Fight: Scientists Identify COVID-19 Drug That “Kills” the Virus Within 48 Hours
A collaborative study led by the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute (BDI) with the Peter Doherty Institute of Infection and Immunity (Doherty Institute), a joint venture of the University of Melbourne and Royal Melbourne Hospital, has shown that an anti-parasitic drug already available around the world kills the virus within 48 hours.

The Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute’s Dr. Kylie Wagstaff, who led the study, said the scientists showed that the drug, Ivermectin, stopped the SARS-CoV-2 virus growing in cell culture within 48 hours.

“We found that even a single dose could essentially remove all viral RNA by 48 hours and that even at 24 hours there was a really significant reduction in it,” Dr. Wagstaff said.

I come with memes from the future...

Currently Ivermectin has the same level of evidence for COVID19 treatment as Hydroxychloroquine.

I await the press conference with my future memes.

I'm not dismissive of this as a potential treatment. But it's an vitro study which means they put some chemical with a virus in a laboratory. You have to then show that that works in vivo which means you put it in the person and you transport that drug to the virus and get benefit.
So it might work but we don't have evidence yet.

But are they?

that’s what worries me.

it all seems so reactionary

I guess they are dealing with the sick patients?

Trump keeps banging on about a drug that will not hurt people.

that’s not true is it?
His biggest slip today (and this was real bad) was stepping up to prevent fauchie (sp?) From giving fauchies personal feeling on that drug (a total authoritarian move)

But trump's own response is about giving people the right to decide to use it, after signing a waiver to not sue. So they are fully aware of the risks at this point

Assuming it doesnt prevent people who already rely on that drug from getting it, trumps reasoning is reasonable, no? Am I missing something?

(Worth noting that pence mentioned something about them producing alot more of it, specifically for the Detroit area iirc. And they got signoff to do a case study of the results)

Well hindsight is 20/20 so we can all say we shouldn’t coulda woulda done things differently. But I also think he took it way too lightly early on and his assumptions about medications, the severity of the contagion, calling it a hoax early on are really on him and no one else. He falls for right wing conspiracy theories a bit too easily and that leads to weird responses to legitimate issues.

With all of that said, and I’ve said this before, I want him to do good here. I want to hear him say the things we need to hear. I don’t want to hear stuff like “well I heard this, it may be true, I don’t know, find out for yourself”. I want him to take this extra serious and not look like he’s annoyed at having to deal with something that he feels he’s bigger than.

If he did well tonight, I’ll have to go back and watch it. I’ve been waiting for him to do well. Lol

People need to remember that the WHO said it was no big deal early on too.

Can you post some links about this?
I was not following much of their response earlier. Everything that was coming through journals was pretty cut and dry and just sounded like SARS. Same sort of response and same sort of talk.

The things that I have seen that are the most egregious by the WHO would the simple passing forward of Chinese reported data without any peer review. Normally the WHO guidelines are pretty decent if not outdated because they move slowly. They are peer-reviewed and you're essentially getting the input from lots of world leaders and their fields.

In this case the WHO for some reason was putting forward piecemeal data without context. One that jumps out to me is when they stated there was not evidence of human to human transmission. I mean that's true at the time. But that's the kind of cold hard fact science language that I would use with my peers and not in a public facing press statement. It has heavy implications outside of stating knowns and the average layman does not understand the minutia involved in non-inferior and superior and lack of evidence not being evidence in its own right.

Ah whoopsies. full disclosure. I only watched the beginning of trumps prepared speech today. Watched the entire QnA section. So that's the part I was referring to as great

I particularly liked the how he continued to commend governors from "the other side," and when he called out some politicians as having political answers, he slipped in a "i might do that too." A rare moment of honesty for any politician

He also did a much better job about directing his anger of people not giving praise to not be about praising him, but praising thousands of americans busting their asses to try to right this ship. It seemed genuine. I dug it
