I have no idea.
Gotcha, I'm just curious if it was some type of issue where they say for too long and something seized up and/or dry rotted or if they were no shit actually broken machines put into storage or if they were damaged in transit.

Herd immunity (also called herd effect, community immunity, population immunity, or social immunity) is a form of indirect protection from infectious disease that occurs when a large percentage of a population has become immune to an infection, whether through previous infections or vaccination, thereby providing a measure of protection for individuals who are not immune.[1][2] In a population in which a large proportion of individuals possess immunity, such people being unlikely to contribute to disease transmission, chains of infection are more likely to be disrupted, which either stops or slows the spread of disease.[3

Too swole to control @Too swole to control - herd immunity is probably less than 2% right now...needs to be an 80%. And there's preliminary/anecdotal evidence that we may never achieve that because of low antibody titres in recovered people. It'll probably take some social evolution and medical advancements to find the new normal.

across the World? 2% us worst-case probable, considering the antibody questions that have been raised.

Ok

I just feel like there is so little data to be sure of any number

I guess it comes down to when you think it was in NA
I think it was here in december and I think you suspect that may not be the case

We may never know without more testing...not that I want to be tested.

Maybe later we will have better data somehow.

Personally I think Swole is right about the overreaction but I'm not trying to convince anybody of that.

I feel for those who aren't resourceful, employed, prepared for some shit like this.
I think like 70% of lower income people haven't even gotten a stimulation yet...and most unemployment(forced) is all overloaded and hasn't been paying out either...could get wild.

don't forget that private debtors are taking first grab of the money from people who need it most.
I think it was in the states in December, but you don't find things you aren't looking for, and they definitely weren't looking for this - even though they should have seen it coming since December. I think NYC is the first 'boom' and other regions are going to follow, the lockdown was temporarily effective, but we should have used that time to educate people about the risks going forward. We've squandered another month, and I think that a lot of people are going to die who didn't have to.

it's a weird feeling to hope you're wrong, and not be able to find much evidence to support your hope.

Pennsylvania was right behind NJ as the #3 state in deaths yesterday. I'm guessing most of those came out of Philly, but Pittsburgh isn't that far away.

from your article:
"Elective surgeries are a major source of profit for hospitals. Hospitals say the loss of revenue, combined with the cost of preparing for the coronavirus, is taking a devastating financial toll that could cause some to close."

competing interests at hospitals, too.

I scheduled an appointment yesterday and was able to pick which date and time easily. I don't know if people are staying away from medical facilities for fear of running into people with Corona or what, and I'm really not looking forward to it for that reason, but I have to go in.

The healthcare money grab in this country is crazy.

Too swole to control @Too swole to control I haven't read through the whole thread, but from what I've read in the last couple of pages, you say some very good things that I'm thinking as well !

I can add that I see a big failure of media (trying to watch german, english/french/spanish speaking media) in giving an overview about the situation around the world. I hear zero from China or Russia for example. Sadly I don't know anyone who's living in those countries at the moment. From India I have seen some clips on youtube, but also very little.

If "the west" is so advanced with our hospitals, then the people in countries like (no disrespect meant, just dropping 3 random countries) Pakistan, Turkey, Colombia should all be fucked. On the contrary I think, without proof though, that they are a lot tougher and grittier than us pampered soft assholes.
Also if the virus is that dangerous, then that means that in our societies we would deliberately be putting all essential workers at life's risk without blinking. Also they should drop left and right which I think is not really happening.

Every death is a tragedy, and I'm also scared for my parents. I've even bought them airconditioning machines for the summer lockdown (in Germany, nobody has AC). I have offered my help to many old people I personally know, because they YES should be helped in isolating a bit more.

I don't doubt the virus can fuck you up if you belong to a risk group (heart problems, really old, diabetes, obese), and it should be number 1 to keep those people save. Period. I would maybe add people who are worried and deliberately choose to isolate, no shame in that. Don't force them to work. They will come out once the media story changes and they personally know people who recovered.
But those who are not in risk groups should be able and allowed to combat the virus with the immune system, which, this the numbers show, has worked for the majority of people.

Lot to read, I forgot to mention the very bogus statistics especially in the beginning, in february and march...maybe at another time : )

That's terrible to hear!
Can you give a link to a report/news source? I'm really interested to learn more about it. Here in Germany, it's not a topic in the news. thanks!

For real though... One hospital will not need 10,000. If a hospital needed some, Trump daddy would throw up tents and bring in military doctors or something. He is on it. It's gona be ok. Hope you have a good day out there
Hi I'm that doctor. Hi I work in a tent. We are currently activated. Why am I still working my civilian job at the covid unit? Because it makes no sense to move me.

Where do you think those doctors come from?
2/3 of military medicine is in the reserve component.
Where do those doctors work normally? In civilian hospitals.

Where do the other one third work? At military hospitals.

That solution is a shell game. you can't pull your doctors from hospitals that have needs to put them in other hospitals that have needs.

Under your solution everyone has needs at the same time. That's the whole point. You don't have the resources to respond.
