Being found with an illegal weapon SHOULD bring a harsh penalty, but criminals are typically given light sentences. If guns are made illegal, and being found with one carries a heavy penalty, like in the UK, the amount of gun crime will drop. In the UK you get years and years of caught with a gun.
The only people who have them are the kind of people you see in guy Ritchie movies.
Well, and I'm gonna get one, legally, at a gun club when I go back. Ak47 and an m4.
I'm gonna paint it red and white
You cannot, for a second, compare a gun ban in the UK to Canada. We share a massive border with the US and most guns used in crime come from over the border.
In addition, legal gun owners in Canada are one of the most law abiding demographics in this country. Most guns used in crime are handguns which are already restricted and to legally own one there are a lot of hoops to jump through, and you can only transport it to your gun range or a gun smith. This is not stopping criminals from getting them from over the border and commiting murder (which is also illegal).
And back to your contention about reducing shootings, it certainly didn't to anything to slow down your murder rate did it?
