"Fuck rural America" - John Stossel
What an elitest position that would push for all Americans to move into large communist urban centers...ironically.
I was with the general video until Stossel argues that only profitable operations should be run by government and fuck the rest of us.
This how so much of American has rot gut internet. But that lack of investment is part of what keeps those areas less profitable. If you invest, you'd have people able to move into those areas. But Stossel and others suggest "the last mile" isn't worth it.
Sign me up for that communist living bloc...the most profitable way to get mail and internet!
There is all kinds of hamstringing of post office flexibility by Congress, but 'unprofitable routes should be canceled' is a dumb short sighted solution. Some operations of government are there as a societal quality of life and service. Not just for profit.

Interestingly, you don't think 5 post offices could be consolidated into maybe 3, potentially even 2 with a couple of post boxes. then reallocate "spare" funds to somewhere that might be able to turn a profit, or open a site that may be able to benefit rural America?
Because rural America is the part of the post office that should be losing money, which should be over balanced by urban takings.

I know exactly who he is. He literally suggests that mail service for unprofitable lines should be cut off and isn't needed. "No one's forcing people to live in rural areas" in that very video. He advocates against the need for universal mail access in that video.
And again ironically he suggests replacing it with something like email...lol. when there isn't internet in the same areas for all the same arguments he's making.

And going by constitutional rights, you don't have one, re; post/mail. Which is what he's saying.
Rural living is, in fact, a choice. It would make sense there's more of everything in urban areas.
I'm not putting words anywhere, hence the question mark.
Those 5 post offices directly referred to the 5 featured in the video within close proximity, which you could also add the final rural post office to as the 6th I used as an example.
Nor did I try to make profits the sole metric for success with the post office.
