Mom says all the hospitals are on Divert. They're not accepting any patients who aren't referred for breathing difficulty.
Stop calling 911, they're not dispatching ambulances unless you can't get out of bed.
They said to just hang out at home until it gets bad enough that you can't breath, but for most of these people "home" could be an hour or more from the nearest care facility that has the capability to treat them.

"new cases" has been flat for the last 3-4 days at "4500 new cases"...Mom says everyone knows that's bullshit, they've just run out of tests.

Does your mom have an oximeter at home? A lot of people have reported using them to help self-assessment.

funny you mention that, I told her she needed one when I was there in July, along with VitD, NAC, melatonin, etc.
As soon as she got a call from her Patient Zero, she went on Amazon and ordered one.

My cousin (doctor) says that the issue isn't even the beds, it's the staff.
Most of the small communities the doctors/nurses are also 'high risk'.

Young Kids Losing Basic Skills Under Coronavirus Lockdowns

- key points -

Coronavirus lockdowns are taking a toll on some young kids who no longer remember how to eat with utensils, while others have regressed back to diapers, according to a new study from the United Kingdom.

The report found that some children had regressed from potty training and were back to wearing diapers, while others “had forgotten some basic skills they had mastered, such as eating with a knife and fork- not to mention the loss of early progress in words and numbers.”

Other children lost their stamina and some lost physical fitness. Some children in the study showed signs of mental distress such as an increase in eating disorders and self harm.
I think an alternative but true headline could be "British Parents are too Drunk to be Good Parents".

i'm usually rather suspicious of gov't agencies releasing reports that serve their interests.

Lockdowns serve government interests better than anything since the second world war.
but not the interests of the "Child Protection Agency" when all that Public Health $$ is flowing in to other agencies.

this is their "we're important now too" study

I think you're off the mark there. First thing hospital workers here talked about was the increase in domestic abuse.
i'm willing to bet that wasn't the first thing hospital workers talked about.
Probably brought it up well after 'swamping the medical system'.

That was primarily their concern prior to the pandemic, during the pandemic their concern quickly shifted. It's worth noting I don't live somewhere particularly hard hit.

Now that restrictions have started to loosen and kids are going back to school many of them have in fact had their social skills retarded. Compounding this issue is that everything you're supposed to teach a young child is banned under covid protocols.

Younger brother called me today asking if I knew where to get a rapid test. For the last two weeks he's been working with a guy whose son tested positive today.

I found a public place that does Abbott tests as soon as tomorrow but he ended up going with a place with a 24-hr turnaround for a standard PCR test.

@Splinty is the Abbott test an antigen test?
