What as he impeached for?

The phone call and then subsequent undermining of congressional investigation in Ukraine.

Trump's impeachment came after a formal House inquiry alleged that he had solicited foreign interference in the 2020 U.S. presidential election to help his re-election bid, and then obstructed the inquiry itself by telling his administration officials to ignore subpoenas for documents and testimony. The inquiry reported that Trump withheld military aid[a] and an invitation to the White House to Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky in order to influence Ukraine to announce an investigation into Trump's political opponent Joe Biden and to promote a discredited conspiracy theory that Ukraine, not Russia, was behind interference in the 2016 presidential election.

You should really consider what you've written here while you argue that the behavior of November is what's going to erode the public's trust in elections.

Considered.
No change. Trump undermining the election from the bully pulpit of the executive is still dangerous and harmful.

Ah, I thought it was related to the previous 3 years of election meddling complaints.

So we established in 2000 that U.S. elections could be outright stolen. In 2016 that they could easily be undermined by foreign operatives like jason73 @jason73 So what exactly is this harmful and dangerous to?

That didn't happen.

Close elections with a willing participant. And yes Trump undermining those investigations is harmful.

And I still don't understand why you think that the US president attacking the elections is just water off the ducks back...Your entire argument is that it's no big deal.your entire argument is continued pointing at other situations that are very different and unique and solved through the institutions of America or...If they're not solved through the institutionz of America it's because Trump undermining them.

And yes We are going to walk into a very dangerous situation in which because of Trump not being held accountable in real time for political reasons we'll set up a special prosecutor to go after Trump when he isn't president. This will set up a terrible situation in which it appears to be political prosecution for Biden. Even though the DOJ should be going after him independently to maintain neutrality of the law.

Changes nothing.

You keep acting like there is a this or that.

The actual president attacking the election is harmful. There you go. no amount of pointing at other things that we have survived changes the fact that this is unique and different and you bogging me down in context about minutiae of The 2000 election... which btw was lead by Bush and later determined through the institutions of America to be for Bush. It has nothing to do with the executive bully pulpit attacking those institutions.

It sure did. The whole Bush v. Gore lawsuit was an absolute shit show.

Based on the NORC review, the media group concluded that if the disputes over all the ballots in question had been resolved by applying statewide any of five standards that would have met Florida's legal standard for recounts, the electoral result would have been reversed and Gore would have won by 60 to 171 votes.

You keep acting like there is a this or that.
Because there is. People are pretending that U.S. elections are some sort of gold standard that can never be questioned. Meanwhile they've been fucked with before, and they'll certainly be fucked with again. I'm not making a partisan statement in favor of Trump's behavior. I'm pointing out that people pretending this is what's going to cripple American democracy are lying to themselves.

Alrighty I'm out.

This isn't the conversation. You are continually referring to other things to keep me on the back pedal in details of other topics while also tangenting the whole discussion here.

For the record nobody said what you're saying right there. But that's what you're arguing against. There are terms for arguing against something nobody said...

For the record, when I asked you what this was dangerous and harmful to, you flat ignored the question and went on a relatively unrelated tangent. So forgive me for being unclear on what exactly I'm arguing against.
