I misread you and thought it was sarcasm.

people literally die here every flood or severe weather event. Without fail. In 2013 and 2015 there were two big floods on then nearby river which has low water crossings and bridges that got submerged. No matter how much they blast it on the news, people still go for it. Both of those floods, multiple people died trying to get across a bridge or crossing. This is within a mile or two from my house.

Floods I understand. They present a lot of variables, so do things like tornadoes, and hurricanes. Snow doesn't though. Winter weather events are the only thing you can with a high level of confidence just stay inside and wait out. The exception to the rule would be if you lost your heat, then it's a different story, but that's typically an ice issue rather than a snow one.

I’m reading you loud and clear now, but people here generally don’t think that way. They go for it, often for unnecessary conveniences. One of my neighbors trashed their car today going to get a V-day card.

and floods here are actually pretty bad.Very flashy due our setting. Things get bad real fast. That’s a bigger problem than snow/ice, which is just rare. People literally go drive in this shit and then act surprised that the roads were slick ??‍♂ I’ve been hearing emergency vehicles constantly today. And their broadcasting for people to stay home because responders are overwhelmed. But they keep going out to do shit...

fortunately were are equipped with food, and plenty of bourbon, so it sounds like won’t be going anywhere for a couple days. My job has been driving me insane, so honestly I’m happy to take the extra time with my wife and son. I don’t need to go do shit ?

Y'all dead yet or nah?
Not yet. But this is going to be traumatic for a lot of people here. The great freeze of 2021! Damn it Biden!

I’m actually enjoying it, I somewhat miss snow and real winter weather. Hell, I miss even having 4 distinct seasons. I spent a lot of time outside today with the boy, and it was a damn good time. But I imagine most people here haven’t left the house at all today.

with the ice and low temps, town will definitely be at least 90% Shut down for a day or two. I’m going to gladly accept the extra time with my wife and son and count that as a blessing ?

Still alive but about to have to go to the hospital...gonna just stay the night at this point.
Last minute Canadian snow/ice driving tips anyone?
Snows coming down fast here now.
Depends on your vehicle and experience in the vehicle.

Heavy back end on a light in the ass vehicle is a good thing.

I assume you have all wheel drive.

Your tires may or may not be up to the task.

Don't gain momentum/speed towards a scenario you can't maneuver out of...slow is safe

Do not trust other drivers...ever.
Can't trust them to have any experience at all...they are deadly weapons.

Hope work isn't too busy with accident people.

Be safe man. Go slow and easy, leave lots of extra stopping distance. And watch out for others on the road.

most importantly, bring plenty of extra gear in case something does happen. Hats, gloves, extra coats, blankets. Water and food maybe. Be careful out there.

I’m not really getting snow, it’s more ice pellets falling out of the sky. It’s getting windy though, so maybe the snow will blown in ?not sure where you are, but is it actual snow?

I’d be so happy if I could have a play day in the snow with my son tomorrow. I grew up with lots of snow, and itkind of bums me out sometims that he hasn’t had those kind of similar experiences.

Holy shit, I just found and broke out my old north face ski jacket. It’s from like 1996 or so. This thing is warm as hell! Now I’m really ready...bring it!

I own insulated winter boots and base layers now because of La Paix @Nuk Soo Kow teaching me his Canadian ways.
It really is all about the gear. Tires, salt/sanded roads, clothes etc.
