i was just thinking about these guys the other day pertaining to the Bakersfield Sound.
RL was the man.
I'll listen to it. I've never been told about him, just stumbled on it through the Freddie King radio station on Spotify.RL was the man.
20ish years ago I wore out a CD of his Ass Pocket of Whiskey album. This was back when they sold those CD repair sanding contraptions, and I had to use that multiple times to keep this one working. That album had the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion as his backing band. It's a great album. And there is some really funny shit in there, like Tojo Told Hitler

Will check it out when I have a moment.@Hauler this is long, but worth it. Builds nicely, and as they get deeper into the song there are some really great moments.
Humble Pie was incredible. Steve Marriott had one of the most iconic rock voices, and pretty decent guitarist too. Hell of a showman too. And that's a young Frampton on the black Les Paul.

I got in to RL because I was living in Biloxi and stumbled across Fat Possum Records up in Oxford after catching a Neckbones show/debacle in Gulfport. Asie Payton, RL, Junior Kimbrough, Super Chikan, Black Keys when they were coolRL was the man.

It was new to me too. I'm watching for a second time today, and right now I'm at around the 17 minute mark and they're jamming. I know it's long, but I think it's deserving of the time. Will check it out when I have a moment.
Packing for a camping trip now - got some Tyler Childers on in the garage while I get the gear together.
I like Humble Pie - but don't think I've seen this clip.
The old Fat Possum days were pretty great. My business partner knows one of the founders, they were both journalism majors at U of M. that's awesome! I'd just turned 21, and had really turned on to Chicago blues once I was old enough to drive and could go visit with my uncle in Chicago. Then the USAF dropped me in the middle of a delta blues revival and Holy Smoke those were some crazy shows...The old Fat Possum days were pretty great.
