Genuinely curious question, why are mail in ballots not safe? The only reason I ask is because of how you framed your quotes. Is it more susceptible to fraud than going into a booth and using an electronic machine?

That wasn't the case until 2006 for any American. It's purely a political valence issue designed to limit certain undesirables from voting.
There wasn't significant voter fraud before then either.
To be clear we are talking about picture ID....or drivers license.
In many places, and before 2006 all places there were many ways to prove your identity and registered status without a government ID.
And signatures are totally unverifiable, right?
