So are you pretending that you don't know that VOA is a foreign broadcaster or that they aren't American propagandists?

Also, note the beginning of our interaction where I indicate I'm speaking about the experience in Canada, not America.
What the fuck is happening with your reading comprehension? That VOA is a propaganda outlet was literally my point.

Yes, after the Lancet study was published the propaganda against the vaccine took a big hit for a while. I already posted a Washington Post article doing the same thing.

This is literally the first line of your article 'At first dismissed and ridiculed by Western countries' - the article is acknowledging there was a campaign against the vaccine by the West. And after the Lancet study died down, these same Western countries got back trying to discredit the vaccine.

Re-read the post you're pushing back against.

Back in full lockdown. They are calling it a 7-day lockdown but nobody is buying it. We'll be here for months. Indian variant looking like it is already spreading out of control.

Was just finna tag you about this.

Think it has any effect on the high levels of vaccine skepticism in Oz?

It goes without saying that if your vaccination rate was on par with some other western nations, this lockdown could be avoided.

Absolutely. Poor vaccination levels are still mainly about supply and logistics, but this has been compounded by apathy and denialism. If over 50s and 70s had been doing their jobs and going getting vaccinated, we'd at least be further down the road.

I berated several reluctant elderly members of my family into getting vaccinated before we hit the dead of winter, and thankfully me being an 'asshole' means I have got them at least partially protected.

The worst part is that it wasn't even a Melbourne quarantine breach that caused this, it was a meth town (Adelaide) breach and then they sent him to us. One of his close contacts was a super spreader that also happened to be getting on the piss all over the city. Our two biggest stadiums are both already exposure sites for no restriction football games.

And in news that should scare the rest of the unvaccinated world, they reckon the average incubation period for these cases is 1 day, not the normal 5 they are used to. The variant is highly infectious and mobile. So there's no way for contact tracers to stay on top of the spread because they can't get to people before they're already infectious.

We're fucked again, basically.

My husband works with someone who is Indian and she tells him news of people she knows dying frequently now. She believes some of them were vaccinated, but there's no way for us to be sure for the sake of this discussion. NYT has "Officials in India are trying to track how many fully vaccinated people have fallen ill. If an unusual number of these so-called breakthroughs are caused by a variant such as B.1.617, then that could point to the variant’s ability to evade a vaccine." from a few days ago, so it sounds like they don't have the data yet.

I read an article that said two vaccines - Pfizer and AstraZeneca - were only slightly weaker but still highly effective against it.

You're at about 7% of your population with at least 1 dose now?

Considering that 3 of the 5 Eyes are around or above 50% for first doses, that is woefully low.
