Oh yeah - I'm the prick who isn't here for an actual discussion.

And I don't support Liz Cheney, you binary clown. Are you really that simpleminded that you can't comprehend the idea that you don't support someone politically, but still think that they were not fairly treated in a given situation? Honestly - is that the standard of thinking that you're working with?

??
Liz Cheney went against her party, so her party did something about it. She thought this was her big chance, and she was wrong. It's cut and dry and happens frequently in politics. Politicians are supposed to act on behalf of those who elect them, whether I agree with those voters or not, she didn't. She's a demonstrably terrible person, and it's been hilarious to watch progressives and their media outlets rally around her in support.

For the millionth time, please refrain from insults.

It does not "happen frequently in politics" that a senior leader is purged for conceding to the reality that their party lost an election.

That is a lie.

Try again, but this time without lying?

Also, BeardOfKnowledge @JorgeMasvidalsBeard - an American politician's foremost duty and loyalty is not to those who elected them. It is to the Constitution. That is why, upon taking office, they swear an oath to protect, defend and abide by the Constitution.

Not the President. Not the voters.

The Constitution.

Which is exactly what Liz Cheney did, and she was purged for it. Replaced by a lackey who openly swears to put Trump's ego before the Constitution.

Thoughts on that?

I guess this is why you don't actually try to engage with any serious posts, huh?

I didn't say that's the reason it happens often, I said it happens often. Justin Trudeau kicked his minister of justice out of the party for refusing to obstruct justice.

That is a lie.

This is why no one wants to bother talking to you. You say "I'm fine having my beliefs challenged." Then when someone gives you an opposing view you get mad at them.

Just to switch gears for a bit, here are some stats about just how fucking ancient Joe Biden is.

* He has been alive for just under 1/3rd of the United States' history as an independent nation.

* He was 78 days older on his first day in office than Reagan was in his last day in office.

* He is older than 95% of all living Americans.

* He is already older than 27 Presidents were when they died.

* When Biden arrived in the Senate, he joined six Senators who were born in the 19th Century.

* Imagine that Joe Biden as an infant played peekaboo with someone as old as Biden is now. That person in turn was born early enough that Abraham Lincoln could have played peekaboo with them.

* The final veteran of the First Civil War died when Biden was in high school.

* The last remaining American known to have been born into slavery died when Biden was campaigning for the Senate.

* Martin Luther King Jr was 13 when Biden was born.

* Joe Biden was 13 when Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on the bus.

* Biden is older than Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin.

* Biden was a teenager before televisions in American living rooms became commonplace.

* He had been in Congress for 20 years before they got email addresses.

Too fucking old.

And Trump is only 3 years younger.

And Pelosi is even older.

Can you guys please get rid of this fucking gerontocracy?

You are normalising the personality cult.

Give me one other example in American history where a senior GOP or Democrat was purged from their leadership position for accepting the legitimate outcome of an election.

Just one.

It's not common. In fact, it is one of two parties publicly declaring that they are not going to participate in a democracy any more.

If this (now dominant) anti-democracy personality-cult faction of the Republican Party is not confronted and defeated, then American democracy is finished.

Please feel free to explain why this is in fact not the case.

No one said it was common. You're just moving the goal posts again.

There's nothing undemocratic about removing someone acting against their voters interest.

When he was elected, he was the sixth-youngest Senator in US history.

That was in 1973. Any Senator in his mid-70s when Biden was sworn in would have hit that mark.

Biden is fucking old, man.

??
I misread the statement.
I get it now.

Oh I know he's old as dirt.
Doesn't have a clue what's going on.

The constitution is not meant to be static, it's considered a living document.

Here's the oath they swear.

The oath used today has not changed since 1966 and is prescribed in Title 5, Section 3331 of the United States Code. It reads:

“I, AB, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion, and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.”

Nothing about the constituents. Nothing about the President.

First sentence is about swearing to defend and uphold the Constitution.

That is always - always - the first and foremost loyalty for a public official in the US.

Cheney took her oath seriously, and obeyed it despite tremendous pressure from the cultists and the Dear Leader himself.

She was purged for doing that, and the GOP is now removing anyone else like her from the ranks.

Thoughts?

Are you being serious here, or trolling again?

Nothing anti-democratic about refusing to accept the result of an election and starting a violent insurrection over it, purely because you don't like how it turned out.

Are you serious, or are you just trolling again?

You're flatly wrong. It's been demonstrated to you by a link to the official source and you refuse to acknowledge it.

That's not the subject being discussed.

The subject being discussed is Liz Cheney being removed from a position for undermining the will of her constituents. No, that isn't undemocratic.

John Lee Pettimore @John Lee Pettimore please refrain from personal attacks and insults.
Can these people please refrain from telling me I'm some random former poster who I've never heard of?

Also, can they please refrain from stupid trolling? I'm not posting stupid gifs just to troll people. If they don't want to talk about what is going on in politics but only want to have a nice little comfortable "Biden is senile" meme echo chamber, then this is not really a discussion thread, is it.

You can make your points without insults. I know it's hard sometimes (believe me, I've posted here long enough to know how frustrating it can be) but them's the rules.

They had some that were competent.
DNC is a fucking mess.
Remember when they lowered the delegates to 1 so Bloomberg would be able to go to the final debate, but when he didn't get any and Tulsi had 4 or whatever they changed the number so she wouldn't be able to go?

I literally gave you the exact oath they swear, from the website you yourself linked to.

What's the first sentence? Literally the first sentence of their swearing-in oath?

It's an oath to protect and defend the Constitution. THAT is their first loyalty. Just like I said.

That's not the subject being discussed.
There is no subject being discussed, mate. There's memes and gifs and deflections.

The subject being discussed is Liz Cheney being removed from a position for undermining the will of her constituents. No, that isn't undemocratic.
She wasn't removed from her position "for undermining the will of her constituents".

Again, you are either deliberately lying, or you are misinformed.

She was removed for undermining the will of Trump. Plain and simple. Her constituents have no say in her committee assignments. They vote to install, retain or remove her from office, end of.

And the reason that Trump wanted her removed, is because she refused to buckle under his pressure and publicly advance the false narrative that he won the election but it was stolen from him.

And you call that a healthy, functional democracy. It's Bizarro World. Again, are you really THAT dishonest? Do you sincerely believe this, or are you just trolling........ again? There is literally no way to tell.

Well I consider someone replying to an on-topic, serious and reasonable post with an infantile gif, to be a insult. Especially when it's coupled with an admission that this was posted not to try to participate in a discussion, but simply to annoy me. That's not an insult? How about pinking someone for spam for doing that repeatedly?
