They definitely weren't talking about weddings and yoga, but the Washington Post printed a correction and acknowledged that he never told anyone to "find the fraud".

Iirc correctly the phrasing was that he needed him to "find" the votes he needed to win.

I have no doubt he thinks that. I'm sure his handlers convinced him there was no way he could lose, and his ego took care of the rest. Then he just convinced millions of his closest friends too.

The exact same strategy was used in Myanmar.

Nobody is the villain of their own story. He's the unfairly treated hero.

He didn't use that wording, which was the center piece of the correction.
Just goes to show that it doesn’t matter. The narrative is out there and that is what people are running with, regardless of truth. If nothing else, you have got to give him credit for raising awareness of the media’s bullshit. Before his presidency, I would have taken the nonsense spewed by John Lee Pettimore @John Lee Pettimore as fact. Now, it’s questionable and when looking into it, almost always turns out to be lies/gaslighting.

The flipside is that you still need to acknowledge that the president is supposed to be beyond reproach. Calling and saying "Hey, make sure you do a good job." isn't a thing that should happen either.

Just try to imagine the reaction if there was an audio recording of Obama on the phone with the Michigan Secretary of State, telling him that he wants him to find 11,000 Hillary votes to give her the state.

Imagine the reaction to that audio coming out.

Could you source that? All I could find was that it was recorded.

"I just want to find 11,780 votes," Mr Trump told Georgia's Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger in a recording of the call released by the Washington Post last month.
I did in the post the the article from The Hill. But here's another one directly from the Washington Post.

On Jan. 9, The Post reported that then-President Donald Trump, in a call with Georgia’s lead elections investigator, Frances Watson, had instructed her to “find the fraud.” He mentioned that she could become a “national hero,” reported the newspaper.

In both cases, the quotes were wrong, as The Post has acknowledged in a correction to the story.

The issue at hand is the call to the Georgia secretary of state, the recording of which is in this thread. The President babbles stupid shit like any 70-something year old conspiracy moron, and then tells the SOS, quote, "I just want to find 11,780 votes....."

That's ASIDE from his call that you are referencing, to a state-level election auditor.

What part of this is at all acceptable? It's clear as day that this was a President who attempted to overturn American democracy. I genuinely don't understand why you get all defensive for him, or get all pissy when someone points out the simple truth that he and his supporters are anti-democracy, anti-reality, and are the most serious threat to American democracy in any of our lifetimes.

I never said it was acceptable. I've said several times it isnt. But it also isn't the greatest threat to Americam democracy.

No worries. To be clear, and I'm sure I've said this before. He shouldn't have called him even if it was to talk about weddings and yoga.
That part right there didn't need a correct quote; it wouldn't fly for any president.
Not cool, man.
At least a couple of the times he did it, we know about it.

Can you make a case as to why the Republican Party going full authoritarian personality cult, is not the biggest threat to American democracy in living memory?

You understand that if Pence had not voted to certify in January then America is now in Civil War 2, right?

And you understand that the Republican Party is now openly purging itself of officials who will do what he did, right?

Trump 'believed' that there were 100s of thousands of votes that had not been counted. And he was saying "i don't need you to find all of them, just enough for me to win the electoral votes."

Joe Biden and Barack Obama are/were also authoritarian cults of personality, in case you're interested appearing unbiased.
you're also overstating Pence's role in certification. He wasn't casting a deciding vote.
Biden is a bigger threat than Trump.
