Absolutely there are many new and unique challenges with these initial COVID vaccines. Think about it though, we have been working to develop vaccines for certain diseases for DECADES without success. These vaccines were developed in less than a year - it’s a miracle we have anything at this point. There will be next generation vaccines to be sure, but we will be playing catch-up for a significant period of time before we will be able to have a vaccine which conveys universal protection against COVID-19.

You're conflating the mrna vaccines' existence with them being good. It makes me think of the nostalgia people have for 60's muscle cars. Sure, they're cool, but they're shit cars.

That's not data supported.
We don't have studies on patient centered outcomes with a booster at 6 months.

A booster results in both immediate viral neutralizing antibodies and increased memory b cells and t cells.
There's every reason to believe that you will continue to have protection against hospitalization and death for some period of time And there's reason to believe that will be long past 6 months. Will it be enough clinically? Will it be enough to move this thing into background risk? Maybe. Depends on number of people getting vaccinated as much as anything. But what we can't say is the absolute that you're saying right now which is not data supported.

A variant would change this. Second generation shots will likely be better.

Given the current climate, "We're still in Beta testing." isn't a great argument against these being crappy vaccines.

Plus I have a liberal Union that gets me ridiculous raises yearly. I get a $1200 check at the end of the month because teachers refused to return without a bonus and I have a me too clause lol.

Sounds nice

I wouldn't be a good fit for any of those jobs during this covid time because I would likely get fired or go to court for non compliance with all the rules and regs being pushed out now.

The rules and reg now make me glad I chose to run my own outfit, I just need to schedule myself more vacations and say no to jobs more often. I do enjoy being able to charge whatever I want per job/per hour even if it is a ridiculous sum. I get taxed pretty damn heavy though so tax season is a bitch, but whatever.

It’s fine we disagree. I think it may come down to where we are each setting the goalposts. If the threshold is perfection, then let the criticisms rain down. However, for those of us with direct knowledge and appreciation for what goes into a developing a vaccine and bringing it to market, the fact that we even have vaccines is nothing short of amazing. I would say governments and media have done an abysmal job of educating the public on the role of vaccines and the differences when it comes to COVID-19 compared to those on the CDC recommended schedule. People have the misguided belief that these are intended to be foolproof bubbles and two-jab permanent solutions, and are now making them more polarizing by instituting mandates, passports, and in some cases punitive punishments. They are now reaping what they sowed. Back to the main point, once again we can disagree on the goalposts but in my opinion ~96% success rate against morbidity and ~72% efficacy against moderate to severe disease for at least a 6m period is amazing.

15 vacation
And a bunch of holidays and days before and after.
Plus they carry over and never expire
Currently have 58.5 days available before adding the holidays this year.
