if Aldo shows up in prime form there's no way I personally see McGregor winning

Conor wins by pressuring Aldo and making him back up. He needs to be versatile in his strikes and make Aldo defend everything. Aldo has lost more than a step over the years and he's not the same fighter he used to be. I don't know who will win but Conor has the skills to stand with Aldo.

I wouldn't say Aldo has lost anything. It's just that the competition has gotten better and better. He's still in his prime, even with the layoff. His cardio is a question mark due to the cut being tougher, but Conor struggles to get down there too. Jose also has no problems being a counterpuncher so whether he's backing up or leading, I don't see it making much of a difference.

This will probably be a great fight and Jose will take away that placeholder belt.

This fight could go either way.

He's probably not going to, but it's not out of the realm of possibilities. Conor can KO any FW/LW if he lands his left hand. Jose Aldo's training regimen for McGregor: boxing with the Cuban Olympic team, bring in top Brazilian prospects to mimic conor at 100%, Andy Sower in camp, flying guys in from Holland. Means that he's fucking concerned about this. Gun to my head: Aldo uses takedowns and BJJ to win this thing, but if he lets his pride get the better of him and starts brawling, he's fucked.

I agree with Cerberus. Aldo isn't the same guy he was in WEC. Still a beast, but just isn't the explosive guy he used to be. Happens to all of them, it will happen to Conor one day too. Having said that, I don't see this fight as a clear favorite for one guy or another. It's a close fight. Conor is so much bigger and longer and more accurate with his volume punches, while Aldo can work leg kicks and his athleticism to score. This is going to be a competitive fight. Chad Mendes was the toughest matchup McGregor could have faced this side of Frankie Edgar, and he mauled that guy (granted, it was on short notice, but Conor had a fucked up knee and still cleaned his clock).

Shit's gonna be insane...assuming it happens.

If Conor fights that game then he's going to walk into some serious heat. The man has got away with it so far but he has been tagged when trying to do that. He's a man of many skills but that, imho, is not his forte.

I can see Conor having success, but I don't see why he is the favorite.

Betting Aldo in this one, but nervously.

We can only hope Aldo destroys Conor but it won't be that easy. Unless Conor gets caught, it will be a tough fight for both guys. I'm with Bobby Lupo @Bobby Lupo, Aldo's best chance is to take this to the ground.

Aldo isn't as fast or dynamic as he was back in the day (imo) and he is not a technical boxer, he ducks his head and throws powerful, looping combos. If Connor can keep him at range and pick him apart he has a chance. Super interedasted in this fight.

Not a technical boxer?

Not a technical boxer?

See in this gif alone he could move his feet more, throw tighter punches (especially his tracer jab) and work angles better, he could also turn over way more on those punches with a better base.

I'm not saying he sucks at striking but he is not a technically crisp boxer, he's a dynamic and athletic striker.

Aldo has no idea what's in store for him. He's never faced a bigger, stronger, more aggressive fighter with superior hands.

He consistently goes 5R with guys who get finished in their next fight, because now he's gotten too comfortable and only does what's needed to beat inferior competition.

The problem for him will be that Conor is just better.

It's not like Aldo is this D-I wrestler with a smothering top game.

He is going to get fucking destroyed by the notorious one.

Conors isn't much bigger than Aldo and they have similar reach , and if you haven't see aldos ground game it is waaay more smothering than you think it is . just check out that clip @Splinty posted above ^ "He consistently goes 5R with guys who get finished in their next fight, " who? After he beat Edgar Edgar still hasn't been finished , after lamas , lamas went on to destroy denis bermudez and then lose to mendes , after Aldo beat mendes.. mendes destroyed lamas and then lost to McGregor, so not one person went and got finished in their next fight after aldo and even if they did MMA mat h never really works anyways . you see in conors last couple fights vs siver and mendes be got clipped by single thrown punches , you think that will match up well with aldos combos and explosiveness ? Even if Aldo lost a step or two he definitely is a different beast than McGregor ever faced before because all of McGregor wins are not on aldos level not even Chad is in aldos level. Hopefully it's a war and not a quick KO from either sides

First let me say Hominick has far better hands than Conor and he left with a second head after being out struck by Jose. Florian was considerably bigger than Jose and he was man handled. Kenny also said it was three to four months before he had full felling back in his legs from Jose's kicks. No way Conor's tiny ass legs are going to handle it. I bet Conor trys to jab and move no way does he trade with Jose, no way in hell.

Everyone has their own opinions, but I would like to disagree. aldo is superior to McGregor in nearly every facet of the game. wrestling, bjj. you could even argue that he is better standing.. there is no way conor has superior hands than aldo. those who say he does tend to want to disregard fight metric stats. aldo has fought more, against tougher competition and his overall striking stats are better than conors... that doesn't tell me that conor is better than aldo.

Aldo doesn't come from a wrestling background, but he definitely handles everyone down there. he mounted kz, florian, mendes, lamas, he sliced hominick up from guard with elbows. the only person he didn't handle on the ground was edgar, and that's simply because edgar couldn't get aldo down.

I could see aldo winning anywhere the fight takes place, conors best chance is a straight left or a body kick.
