there's another section of law which says that the "under 18 dangerous weapon forbidden" statute only applies to shotguns and SBRs.
the "clear and plain" reading of the law and the legislative notes from from when the law was passed in 1991 make it clear that kids walking around with semi-auto rifles are not illegally carrying.
The law was written to target black poor kids, but it affected rich white kids, so they adjusted it.

the DA tried to get it thrown out, and there's no way any conviction stands up on appeal. Binger withheld evidence and tainted the jury. The judge didn't grant him the easy out of a mistrial, but the case is sunk.
