This is a really bizarre argument and one I had with a friend. He said that we are now saying COVID is no worse than the flu and need to live with it as an endemic virus, proving he was right in 2020 and we were wrong.

That's not the same argument. We've had vaccines for a year now. It's only now starting to become acceptable to suggest that maybe we live with COVID.

We didn't have decent vaccine coverage a year ago and certainly not in 2020.
Neither Bill Maher or Adam Corolla said anything about "2020" you inferred that based on a different discussion from your idiot friend. We had vaccine coverage on the people who actually needed protection by March here. I'd have to assume it was sooner in your non-third world country.
I was talking about my friend when referring to 2020. But even ignoring that, to suggest going back to normal in March 2021 is absurd for a number of reasons.
- People were still dying in relatively high numbers.
- The data wasn't yet available to determine whether SARS-COV-2 had become endemic (it hadn't).
- Vaccine rollout wasn't sufficient at that point. Only the very most vulnerable had been vaccinated.
At the beginning of the post I pointed out to you that that tweet and your friends comment weren't the same argument.
