McConnell Denounces R.N.C. Censure of Jan. 6 Panel Members
Senator Mitch McConnell joined a chorus of Republicans distancing themselves from the committee’s action, describing the Capitol riot as “a violent insurrection.”
Mr. McConnell repudiated that description, saying of the events of Jan. 6, 2021: “We saw it happen. It was a violent insurrection for the purpose of trying to prevent the peaceful transfer of power after a legitimately certified election, from one administration to the next. That’s what it was.”

He’s scheduled to begin a jury trial Feb. 28 on five felony counts, including obstruction of an official proceeding, entering a restricted grounds with a deadly weapon and obstruction of justice through threats of physical force. It’s the last charge Reffitt’s children will testify about.

A right-wing doctor known for spreading debunked claims about the COVID-19 pandemic has reached an agreement to plead guilty to charges connected to the Capitol riot, the Justice Department told a federal judge Tuesday.
Dr. Simone Gold, who founded America’s Frontline Doctors, gained a following in the summer 2020 through her opposition to COVID-19 lockdowns and her promotion of the anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for the virus. At the time, it was clear hydroxychloroquine was unlikely to be an effective treatment for the virus, and subsequent studies have show it may actually exacerbate the risk of infected patients.
