It's weird that people will see it and not go "Hey, wait a minute..."
Any nuance and complexity about cultural identities has been pissed on for convenience and therefore pro-Russian eastern Ukrainian civilians won't count as people. It is just ethnic Ukrainians being invaded solely by foreign ethnic Russians, as if it is Japan rolling into Norway, according to the narrative.

That's why almost everyone thinks 'just return Crimea to Ukraine' is actually the moral and humane thing to do. Would be like 'returning' the rest of Ireland to England at this point.

In saying that, it seems that the amount of Russian-speakers that are pro-Russia is far less than it was in 2014. Russians aren't getting much of a welcome outside controlled Donbas.

Is this just what it seems or am I missing some context or something? Can’t find too many sources on it.

"Ukrainians with real combat experience will be released from custody and will be able to compensate for their guilt in the hottest spots," Zelensky said.

"All sanctions against some individuals who participated in the Anti-Terrorist Operation will be lifted. The key thing now is defense."

Zelensky said the decision was difficult to make from a moral point of view but was vital "in terms of our protection."

This sounds like the plot of a Hollywood movie.

Shockingly, Trump taking credit for NATO budget increases and the Javelin missiles Ukrainians are using right now.

Ireland was annexed in 2014?

Seriously tho, many nationalist Russians moved to Crimea right away after the annexation, I know one myself actually. They surely would have to go again if anything like that takes part. Same as some old ones perhaps. That would be the price to pay tho.
But it's not like Russia doesn't have enough room for em. It seems unlikely to me at this point tho.

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy posted photos of himself signing the EU application, a largely symbolic move that could take years to become reality and is unlikely to sit well with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has long accused the West of trying to pull Ukraine into its orbit.

Ireland wasn't undemocratically annexed to England in 1954 by an authoritarian regime either, mete. Why does 2014 matter and 1954/1991 doesn't matter? Both were initially forced moves that were eventually democratically validated, but the difference is that the results 2014 were far more decisive than 1991.

And you can kick and scream about the legitimacy of the referendum, because you could do the same about 1991, but independent polls clearly show that the population wants to be Russian.

Also, am I to understand that your considered 'solution' to the problem is just to ethnically cleanse Crimea of 80% of its population and send them to Russia because it has 'room'?
