We've gone too far.

What have we done!!!!!!!!!

We have become what we hated. What we were fighting against in the first place.

If you want to get out, you need to know how you got it. Wouldn't want that to get in the way of a good war though, would we?
i see what you mean now. but to play devils advocate, there is a new player on the field which some did not expect: the dissenting voice of russian people

unless someone takes out putin, a soft landing will still be needed

but the russia that emerges from this may be a more pro-ukraine independency / pro-western russia

Could very well be. Granted is that new Russia a real thing, or a result of the continued outside interference?

Also, for what it's worth. Throughout this going back to last year, Russia's demands have been shockingly consistent for a country allegedly trying to take over the world.

I have less faith in the ability of individuals to overturn institutions without those institutions failing on their own. If I were just guessing, if we avoid world war 3, the West will throw enough resources at this to stop Russia from holding Ukraine. Russia wins the initial onslaught, then it becomes their Iraq 2.0. Nation building with an angry insurgency. They would have even a harder time and installing a leader they could control.
At some point the cost of this becomes too high and Russia will retreat to some frozen conflict agreeable behind the scenes by all sides. Probably close to what they already have. They'll take the East and Crimea perhaps with some strategic land grab with everybody angry about it but willing to ratchet down sanctions. Ukraine will be caught in the tug of war for the next 10 years. Maybe Putin is dead by then and doesn't have a hand picked. Successor following the same playbook. Maybe not. Maybe we get Putin 2.0 continuing to lock Russia into a losing game of cheap gas and nukes

sorry. when i suggested the emergeancd of a more "pro western" russia, i was referring to the heart of the people (this war seems to have lit a fire under the ass of people who already were not down with their overlords)

but im with ya in that its unlikely for individuals to overturn institutions

so unfortunately, this arguably positive change among the people simply adds fuel to future showdowns within russia as well as between russia and the world
