Wow, I wonder how many teams will make up a new offensive coaching position just to throw someone in there. There must be a good few teams that are already happy with their offensive coaching staff, surely?
Gets them in the door at the ground floor. That seems to be the main obstacle for better representation, the old boys club that only hire coaches that they know. Or in Andy Reid's case that he's related to.

Coaches hire people they know because they have trust in them.

If they hire people they haven't worked with before, they should look at their CV, not their skin colour or genitals.

I wonder how popular the Browns owners are with the rest of the owners during the annual Owners' Meeting this week?

they paid Deshaun all that money, guaranteed. A lot of owners gotta be "fuck them"
I don’t think the other owners will care much. Someone was gonna sign him. They are probably laughing that Cleveland went all in and gave an obsurd contract to an alleged sexual predator who hasn’t played a game in more than a year and will likely face a suspension. If he comes back and blows out a knee they are SO fucked.

i dunno...that All Guaranteed is going to be a standard in negotiation for every QB that has played in the last year and isn't facing a shitload of civil cases. The Browns owners did a dirty on all the other QB negotiations for the other owners going forward.

If the owners want to behave "morally" in their negotiations, that's on them. NFL teams have a history of happily hiring alleged murderers / rapists / abusers. This isn't something new, and if someone in a similar position to Watson makes those demands, they can just say "lol no."

the Browns just made it so that All Guaranteed contracts are a thing for QBs, and mandatory for every QB at least as good as Watson.
It wasn't even a thing until the Browns made it a thing, they basically leveraged all the other owners to entice Watson to Cleveland, after they completely mishandled the Mayfield situation.

I'm guessing that they have a lot fewer friends at the meeting this year.

Like I said, it's only a "thing" if they say yes to it. If they do, it's on them.

Agents can ask for the moon, it's up to the owners whether they give it to them.

Also if it backfires spectacularly (and there is a decent risk that it will), that will put a stop to those kinds of demands.

the Browns legitimized the demand, prior to the Browns and Watson it wasn't a reasonable demand to make in a contract. Now there's precedent.

I think long term, you're going to see QBs getting shorter contracts and a lot more "QB-Carousel" in free agency every year.

Hasn't Kirk Cousins' agent been getting this for years? I think his last 2 deals have been all guaranteed money.

he was the first to it, but it was a 3 yr/84M deal. So it was Top10 Salary, making Andrew Luck money.
But he's received two extensions on it, so it was effectively 5/140M...which basically makes Kirk Cousins agent the best.
but a 10yr/230, where you're putting $180M in escrow? that's a whole new thing for how owners budget. The Browns are basically betting on the growth of revenue and cap growth.

Also, wasn’t the offense shit in NY when he was there? Seems like i remember him being strictly a defensive guy? Could send the QB back into retirement? Or perhaps he’s the reason behind Bruce being moved to the front office.

Byron Leftwich runs the Offense
Did a lot of work last year but Bruce Arian got most of the credit
