Haven't been following.

Why would surrounding counties need to pony up for Disney's operational costs?
Disney was given some sort of deal where they have limited government. So Disney funds things such as the fire department. By taking away their status, the state now has to absorb those costs

It was a very weird corporate deal. From my understanding, it never should have happened in the first place and should be removed

The irony though is that DeSantis was just trying to win some votes with this move. And he may end up losing votes in a state he barely won

Disney wouldn't have agreed to the deal if it wasn't a win for them. Crazy this even existed.

Although details are far from clear, the proposal could have huge tax implications for Disney. Democratic state lawmakers who oppose the bill also have warned that it could result in homeowners getting hit with big tax bills if they have to absorb costs the company used to pay.

Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings, whose county is partially home to Disney World, said it would be "catastrophic for our budget" if the county had to assume the costs for public safety at the theme park resort. Reedy Creek currently reimburses the Orange County Sheriff's Office for public safety costs.

"If that district goes away, and they no longer pay for those public safety costs, and it then has to fall to the county's other budgets, that is a net sum loss to the rest of the taxpayers of Orange County," Demings said.

So just charge Disney for each EMT run. Presenting them with a tax break to cover those expense as an à la carte situation is crazy. Again, if it wasn't a net win for Disney they wouldn't have signed the deal.

Here I am arguing against corporate bennies with a democrat. Is this crazy town?

i dont know the details. but this deal was presumably done a long time ago. so it may have been a win on the front end. and now a second win on the back end due to increased obligations over the years

Why should Disney be charged for its customers who need an EMT?

Do other private companies have to pay for emergency services for their customers in America? If you had a jammer at Fat Burger, would they have to pay for the ambulance or would you?

Because they weren't paying taxes for the service.
Because currently they’re providing this service themselves and paying all costs. Soon it will be the tax payers footing this bill thanks to the Florida GOP and their cancel culture.

What’s the definition of democrat you’re basing this assumption off?

The general definition of being a proponent of democracy? Yes, I’m all for democracy, are you not?

Or the American political party version? Cuz that would be silly.

And not paying taxes.
They wouldn't do that if it wasn't advantageous to do so.

Florida is getting fucked. Generally speaking, corporations are smarter than governments when it comes to being fiscally responsible.

One can only assume a reinstatement of the tax would net the surrounding areas with a much better EMT program.

You are a Biden honk - which is fucking laughable. Only a party-liner would be a Biden honk. He's a joke.

They had a status much like a municipality does. Not fully sure how it works in America but up this way if a city provides its own municipal police force and emergency services, they don’t have to pay the federal govt taxes to also provide that service. Why should they have to?

Why would Florida have a greed to that deal if it wasn’t initially advantageous to its citizens?

The changes don’t benefit the surrounding areas as you have mentioned but instead are going to be dramatically increasing their property taxes… Or at least that’s what we are reading have you seen otherwise?

Biden is a joke. I am Canadian so I’m not sure how you think I could be a Biden Democrat. I post stuff about Biden in a Biden thread and enjoy though predictable responses and emotional reactions from the usual suspects. As I have said many times, Biden is useless and Trump and his supporters should be thoroughly embarrassed for losing to such a dud.

Are you going to vote for Trump again in 2024?

Governemnts make all sorts of concessions to entice corporations. The wellbeing of their constituents is an afterthought, providing they are at least able to cast a vote.

That's what is being reported. We'll see how it shakes out.
