I don't know, it's tough to tell. Everything's situational. I mean I've yelled at a lot of callers, and hung up on hundreds more. Mention the names Gates or Soros, and a 5 second countdown begins.
But if I yell, its almost inevitably very briefly and it'll be something along the lines of "Caller! LISTEN to ME!" and then a calm, firm, authorative voice to follow that outburst. But that's more a shock tactic to snap them back on track if they start to become hysterical or whatever. So yelling at somebody, that's not necessarily a big deal in and of itself.
Never, ever, EVER yell at somebody who is whispering into the phone, though. For fucks sakes. You drop and lower and slow your voice, and speak right into the microphone.
And a mass shooting....... that's troubling, if she couldn't grasp the situation quickly. Gunshots in the background are very, very loud and very distinct, and an active shooter....... that's a type of call that is all on its own. If this guy was yelling in between shots, that should have been clear as well.
When shit is
for real for real, it sounds different. You can just hear it in people's voices, when somebody has just suddenly died right in front of them. Or when they are very suddenly in genuine and legitimate fear for their own lives.
Having said that, at the same time there's a lot of stuff that it's tough to tell if it's an emergency situation, or nothing. Is this guy on the end of the line snoring and rolled over onto his phone and hit the emergency call button on the lock screen, or is he alone in a house choking to death on a midnight snack? Is that someone screaming outside in the middle distance, or is it just a pocket dial on a windy night with a shitty connection? Is this a brutal domestic assault, or rough sex from two drunk freaks who call the emergency line because they get off on having someone overhear them? (Yes, that happens, and shockingly often as well. Multiple repeat callers for that one.)
Tough to tell on this Buffalo call without listening to the recording. Doesn't look good from what I read, though. Yelling at a caller who is whispering into the phone - that sets off all kinds of red flags by itself. You just gotta assume,
always, that they are whispering because they are hiding from someone or something that will hurt or kill them if they hear them.
