yes.

they were following a protocol, based on incorrect and easily verifiable information.
You might be surprised at what "easily verifiable" information is in that type of disaster situation. And that's not a full throated defense of the cops by any means.

There was no such thing as the anarchist cookbook. So that definitely never happened to you or m…..never mind
I lived in BFE, but the kid nearest me who was my age had a Dad who was EOD in the Army. He had all kinds of books on Improvised Devices.

and if that option wasn't available...he would have done what?

normalized and began contributing to society in a meaningful way?

what if he'd connected with a counselor or therapist when he was 14? or do you think he just woke up one day and decided to go buy guns and kill kids?

If he waited until he was 18, why couldn't he wait until he was 21?
The option to buy AR-15s and Glocks isn't available in most of the developed world.

Where are the regular truck bomb attacks? Is the States the only country to have mentally ill people?

"are there any 911 calls coming from inside the school? OK, they could be coming from inside the room with the killer.
Form up on me."

If I have to answer the last question it most likely will waste my time. Splinty @Splinty has already answered that before. And I addressed it again later in the thread.

I don’t think he woke up one day and decided to do this. I also think he waited until he got his weapon of choice. He would have 700+ more days for something to happen to change his mind.

Also, do you really think he would have been open to listening to a therapist?

My friend had a computer that downloaded a book and it was quick only took about a day and a half.

Not trying to be a dick, but it's really not as simple as that, a lot of the time. In this case yes, absolutely they fucked up in a huge way. But it's very difficult to even determine how many gunmen there actually are.

the guy responsible for school security showed up 15m late and without a radio. They watched the gunman advance down a hallway, turn, advance down another hallway and enter the room to kill kids.

that's a criminal level of negligence.

at 14, sure. the day before? not so much, but it couldn't hurt.

Adam Lanza was 4 months short of being 21. The Vegas killer was in his 50s.

i'm not worried about stopping the last killer, I'm concerned with stopping the next one. Best bet to do that isn't to raise the age of purchase for one particular instrument of death.

There was one terrible truck attack in France by an Islamist, yes. Alek Minassian killed 10 people in Canada with a truck in an incel attack, too.

Want to go incident by incident - massacres involving a truck anywhere in the Western World, versus massacres committed with AR-15 type rifles in the US?

Why are you guys so prone to "So it wouldn't stop ALL attacks EVERYWHERE no matter what? HA! So that's the same as being completely ineffective then, and justifies doing nothing at all. Incremental improvement isn't a thing, either a solution is guaranteed to instantly fix 100% of the problem forever, or it's not worth even trying in the first place."?

Sure it is.

Is he the only gunman on the property? He's the only one they saw. Does that mean he's the only one? What about the other gunmen that people called up to report? It's a clusterfuck, every time. This one was particularly disgracefully handled, and I'm not interested in pretending it wasn't. But when shit hits the fan for real, things aren't anywhere near as cut and dry as most people on the outside assume they are.

But he didn’t try to make bombs. He waited until he could buy his weapon of choice, an assault rifle.
He didn't buy any weapons. His stupid asshole of a mother had assembled a home armoury for him. All he had to do was get out of bed, pick up a couple of the many assault rifles and Glocks that she filled the house with, kill her, and drive to the school.

I was referring to the Uvalde guy. But I get your point on that one.

There been a massive push since the Nice massacre.... If that's what you're referring to. To de radicalise Muslims.

Its not an issue here in Europe now.

It doesn't go away and we are on our guard.

Difference is we did something.

What is your country doing to stop the slaughter of innocents?

You proffer a social mental health service.

You really think that is the answer? What about stopping the real problem?

Guns?

Universal health care is great. But it won't stop gun massacres.

That's not how it works.

because you're talking about something that may have some small impact on the ways that kids die vs something that will save thousands more kids and improve the lives of everyone. Why would I fixate on the type of weapon?

I don't want to add a black market of weapons to the mix, I'd rather fix the problems we have before we create new and unfixable problems.

Why can’t we do both things?

I thought you said there was already a black market for guns.

There's a black market of guns flowing in to Mexico, where they're prohibited to civilians but gangsters DGAF, and a lot of it is done with the knowledge and permission of the BATFE.

so...it's bad, but there's always room to make it worse.

EDIT - we can do both, but only one has a cost/benefit ratio << 1.

and a lot of it is done with the knowledge and permission of the BATFE.

that's a hell of an over statement. ATF walked guns make up a pathetically small amount of firearms in mexico.
For the uninitiated Filthy @Filthy is referencing the ATF allowing guns to transit mexico in attempted sting operations. Some of these have gone all the way to cartels who then killed mexican police and others with them. The US has provided mexican army guns and they have deserted bringing their weapons along with them to their new cartel positions. This is all a small drop of the total guns in mexico. Not "a lot".

Mexican guns are largely American straw purchases, some stolen guns, and increasingly cheap chinese crap.

The 70%+ of mexicos illegal guns are from the US. Tracing those back to the straw purchase is almost impossible due to lack of universal background checking or any other type of database helping law enforcement.

Buy a gun, send it to Mexico. Without a sting operation selling that gun and targeting the suspect it is nearly impossible to prove.
Police can find that gun in Mexico and there's no tracking back to anything but manufacturer and gun dealer.

"Oh I sold that gun at a gun show" is all you have to say to cover a straw purchase.
