I’ve been slowly getting everything out of my place. I gave away all my furniture and threw my bed away. Everything is expendable.
This when I moved in to my apartment in Yuma. I also had a Shredder. Think I had a microwave as well. One of my pilots stopped by and asked why lived in poverty. So I went and got some furniture and a bedroom set.
I wish it were that easy with the old people and the sentimental value everything has for them. My dad is trying to keep a 16 year old, heavy af plasma TV that still worked three years ago when we replaced it. I don’t know if it works now, it doesn’t have the legs because it was mounted to the tv stand, but damn straight he’s not getting rid of it. ??♀
My son is getting new furniture, I’m getting newer stuff but my parents can’t part with anything so it’s coming with us.
If you had enough things to make you comfortable and happy, that's fine. The only downside to your setup that I can see is that it's tough to be sociable due to a lack of seating, so maybe throw in another couple of chairs or bean bags.
That sounds awful. I have a lot of shit I’m taking with me too, but I got it slowly moved out when I had the help. Albums, safe, winter clothes and the such. Fucking Albums are heavy as fuck.
Years ago I helped my step moms friend move and got burned. Her husband helped with the first load but after that it was all me. Her 8 year old granddaughter helped more than she did. Then the fuckers sat in the house while I unloaded the trailers. The dumb broad give me 50 bucks and said I’ll get you later. Wrong! Bitch never coughed up a nickel.
Then she recruited me to help move her mom. I didn’t mind because her mom is an old bird and it wasn’t much.

We are definitely hiring movers for all the big stuff. I’m taking a trailer with the stuff we don’t trust movers with, but I gotta go and get the hitch put on. I hate the feeling of looking around and being fucking overwhelmed with the amount is shit we accumulate. I have tossed or donated so much stuff and we still have a fuckton more. This is the last time my parents will have to be moved, though, thank fucking goodness, because they just have so much stuff. My son is getting to the age where toys aren’t as interesting, so a lot of them are getting donated or tossed.
Your stepmom’s friend sounds like my mother. She loves to do one fucking easy task and then sit on her ass and bitch the rest of the time about how she’s exhausted and did too much. That was already her this morning with the appraiser coming.

You shouldn’t say such awful things about your mom, because that lady is the worst. She’s used just about everyone of my siblings too.
Her mom tried to give me money for helping but I couldn’t take the ol’ lady’s money. Instead I bartered for some saddle holsters and fishing lures. Turns out her daughter took the money on my behalf and kept it lol. Classy.
I hear ya about being overwhelmed. I have to lay flooring, paint and possibly redo my kitchen to sell this place. I don’t NEED to but it’ll fetch a better price if I do.
Just remember, one step at a time, break all the work into small manageable pieces.
Thank goodness we don’t have to do anything to sell. Our buyer is a family friend so he’s okay with as is. That’s how I’m doing it. Working on my son’s room now. Also trying to see our friends before we head out.
I fucken loved Yuma. Most people hate it because of the heat and there's not much to do. I liked it because of that. Lots of dive bars.

I'm a little older than you and have also experienced this so you're not alone hah. Especially when I go back and look at pictures of my parents or grandparents at my age....they all looked old and weathered. Other than some grays in my beard, I think I've held up fairly well all things considered.
Like you said, maybe it's just me - but I don't think I look (or act) my age. Just yesterday I stopped for lunch near one of the state universities where there's a ton of students around, and some 18 or 19 year old girl was at the counter. She asked me if I was a grad student lol. In my head I was like "I started college before you were born for fucks sake" lol. I guess I'll take the compliment though
