I ask myself this every day. Nothing pisses me off more than someone driving 60 in the fast lane, and it happens ALL the fucking time over here. Like our driving schools never taught people to get the fuck over into the slow lane, or people just dont care about being assholes. Either way, it drives me crazy.

I didn't put out an outrageous statement. I put out an objective statement. The knee jerk reaction is "No, I've always been told Soccer is the world's game so it must be true." People don't bother to look and say "Holy fuck I hadn't thought of it that way, Basketball and Rugby are popular in places where soccer isn't AND it's growing in places where soccer already is" They don't even acknowledge that the same attitude they accuse Americans of having about soccer, they have about anything that isn't soccer.

Of course popularity is relevant. Being the best in the world at a sport only one country plays, like America with football, makes your skill at it irrelevant in a global conversation. Winter sports are not universally popular, almost half of the world lacks the ability to play them. The fact that you'd pretend they are is indicative of your lack of objectivity. Yes, Spain is getting really good at basketball unfortunately that speaks more to my point about other sports growing in countries where soccer once completely ruled the landscape, than it does to negate it. The same thing is happening in Argentina, Italy, and Brazil.
