EDIT: Derailing Post, Please Skip. - Lars

For serial though Q @Qat, the Nazis were terrified of the Canadian troops. And by the end of the war the Canadian Military was massive. 3rd biggest Air Force and 4th biggest Navy or something. And my family was not in Canada at the time, they were bad ass Jewish Partisans that no Kraut could ever keep down.

Here's a fun article about Canadians slaughtering Nazis, if you have some time: 10 Badass Canadian War Heroes - Listverse

I will leave you with this excerpt:

"Born into the Brokenhead Ojibwa band, Tommy Prince became a Canadian hero at a time when Aboriginal people were still discriminated against by the government. During World War II, Prince enrolled in the 1st Canadian Special Service Battalion. As the name suggests, the group was one of the first modern special forces units, performing highly dangerous missions behind enemy lines. They were arguably the closest real-world counterpart to Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds.

Prior to deployment, the team trained rigorously in stealth tactics, hand-to-hand combat, the use of explosives, amphibious assaults, and alpine warfare. Prince’s particular role was to scout forward and observe enemy movements. His unit terrified Axis soldiers, who called them “the Black Devils” because of their ability to sneak behind enemy lines and slit throats under the cover of darkness. As one of Prince’s officers recalled: “He moved like a shadow. Sometimes, instead of killing the Germans, he’d steal something from them. Other times, he’d slit their throats and not make a sound.”

BJTT-Rizzo @BJTT-FrankRizzo should like that excerpt too ;)

I love you. If the Nazi shit bugs you I will stop. :)
My Step mother is German and born during the 2nd world war in Berlin. When she was older she came to Canada and her parents were terrified. They still believed at the time the stereotype of Canadians they had from WW2.

They thought their daughter was going off to an Artic wasteland where the men roamed the frozen woods waiting to destroy anything they encountered and that they walked over the bodies of their own dead to kill you.

No kidding. They honestly believed that during the 2nd world War England basically captured Canucks and set them loose on Europe in a final solution to destroy everything in their path so that afterwards England could build anew.

It wasn't until she made her first trip to Canada that my Grandmother realized that the Canadian people were human and not some Wendigo/Bigfoot hybrids.

This is accurate, IMO. I love to senselessly destroy things. I've never walked on a body but I did poke one with a stick once.

I have to admit that it has always been interesting to hear that side of my Family talk about Canucks and Canada. It seems that English "colonies" have interesting reps.

While the Canadians were seen as barely controlable animals who swarmed, devoured and destroyed everything they encountered, the Australians were seen as cooler versions of the English who liked to fight, were tough as nails and never stopped either.

I vaguely recall her uncle saying that there was actually a concern that the British might try and mix the two together and set them loose with the intent of using the Aussies to direct the Canucks and that the reason they were sure it would never happen was because the Brits might be able to control one or the other but not the two combined.

Granted these stories were told by older people to young kids willing to listen. But hey...it is what it is.
