Had me a smoked Old Fashioned tonight. Gawdamn it was awesome.

Ok. I lied.

@ConorMcGregorsBeard

And the shitty thing is that all of those hard to get bottles can be found online on the black market. But it's often at up to a 10x markup.

It ruins it for dudes like us that want to enjoy it. People drive around raiding liquor stores for some of these, and then they just sell it for way too much money online. It's a whole weird and shitty little second tier industry.
The scalpers suck for whiskey.

Toured the Neeley Distillery about a week ago. Solid tour. VERY interesting family background. Lots of murders and feuds. I'm talking Hatfield and McCoy type stuff.

Just cracked open a bottle I bought after the tour. Very solid. Admittedly I had to cut it a bit because it was a touch hot for my liking - but it's got a solid taste once you get the heat off it.

They don't distribute anywhere. The only place you can get their stuff is right at the family distillery. Pretty cool.

Forgot to post pics here from a few other distilleries I hopped down to lately...

It was my first time at the Buffalo Trace distillery. Didn't do the tour but the shop was insane. I was hoping for Blantons or EH, but their selection for the day was Weller. Limit 1 and I'm now in jail for 90 days, but I scored a 2nd bottle by convincing my buddy to grab me one too. Had to grab some regular BT's while I was there. They let you get multiples of those.

The smaller bottle is a barrell pull from RD1 - which is a distillery across the street from one of my favorite music spots in Louisville - The Burl.

Sorry. No bourbon shots.

I think I grabbed a gin here. It was hot as balls out and I needed something refreshing.

It's tasty when you cut it.
Plenty of folks can drink 110 neat. It's not unheard of. Plenty of bourbons out there 120+.

But for me? When it gets to 100 or over I usually prefer it cut a little bit. Tastes better to me.

Bonus: The bottle lasts longer.

Nice, I get it.
Savor the flavor.
I'm not used to stuff that nice.

I always try/tried to water it down with couple ice chunks that melts, but sometimes I don't wait long enough.

When you go on borbon tours they usually provide water. That's to clear your taste buds between samplings, but also some will show you how adding water changes the taste with the same juice.

Scotch is big on that too. I've seen dudes argue about adding 1 drop vs 2 drops to a dram. Pretty funny.

Do what makes it most enjoyable to you.

I don't go over 35 a bottle if I wanted some whiskey, so I'm not even in that league.

I just make sure I use good water for my ice, that is as far as I go.
