Some of you know that it's my turn for divorce...
Due to that I'm selling my house and property. I've been here for 14 years and have a ton of shit I don't want to get rid of.

I was looking at how much storage would cost for all my stuff and vehicles and trailers etc, and it was going to be an insane amount of money.

Fuck that.

I made my bro an offer to have a tough shed type 2 car garage placed on his property, on my dime. It would be his after I get a new place. At least someone would have something to show after I spent all that money.

He said "I want to go bigger"

Two shipping containers with 50' trussed roof.

Here's where we're at so far

This is a budget operation, lol. We're both cheap bastards.
We got the containers for 5G each, delivered.
The trusses were found on craigslist, a contractor over ordered.
We poured the footer about 2 weeks ago and waited for them to be for sure set. Containers were dropped yesterday and this morning.
You can sorta see that we have power to the site.

This is going to be great. My bro is a fantastic Wrench, working on shit together is pretty much all we do when we hang out.

So you guys are gonna turn shipping containers into a workshop that doubles as storage? What stuff do you work on? And this cost 10k but he keeps them. I dunno seems like you paid a lot for temporary storage.

Hes probably the best friend I've ever had. No man I trust more.

Before all my personal drama I hat 12g set aside to build a small woodshed.
So that was my budget.

What I needed for storage was going to cost about 1,500/mo.
I chose to not completely piss that money away. At least it will be kept "in the family.

Also, I'm only paying about a quarter of what this is costing us, he'd already been kicking around the idea and had a small pile saved for it.

Always been curious about shipping container builds. Old timer I know is set on building a home out of two of them placed together.

In.

I have couple containers for storage. Using them as the base for a shop or garage has crossed my mind, but I don't really know where to start.

In to see finished product. This is a fantastic idea for storage. 2 enclosed, rodent proof containers with a covered space in the middle. Are you closing the ends of the trusses ?

MM let's be honest. You are going to have to wind up living in a shipping container on your buds property aren't you. You don't have to lie to us, we ain't judging. So it'll have plumbing and everything? Could be a sweet setup.

Yeah. We're building a 3' pony wall on top of the containers, then trusses on top.
On the "internal" side We're gonna put some kind of door/hatches for the shit you only need once a year..

Lots of stuff on YouTube. Our design is a ripoff of one of those, based on the 50' trusses we scored dirt cheap.

I'll be taking pics of the steps.
We spent a few hours moving them with teeny tiny nudges to get them perfect.
Moving 8000lbs precisely with a chain and my F350 was, um, challenging.

Bought a bunch of 5" heavy duty angle to make 6" tabs. We're welding those to the bottom corners and anchoring them into the concrete footers. Winfmd can get pretty gnarly out there. Wind wouldn't move a full container but once the roof is up it becomes a potential sail so we're overdoing things a bit. That's our way, lol.

Yeah, we paid 5g delivered for each. It was cool though, we got to walk his lot and pick the ones we wanted. Pretty decent shape, floors are solid.
"Single trip" containers are nice but twice as expensive.

Lol, I'll definitely be living in his spare room for a couple months til I find my new spot.

Hes actually got this tiny guest cabin, basically a detached bedroom, that we keep joking is my new mailing address.
