Part of me wants ownership to stick to their guns and fine his ass for every game he doesn't play. Don't reward bad behavior.

The fan in me wants them to pay him whatever he wants because I want the best possible team on the field.

Either way it's pretty annoying.
Dude has 2 years left on his current contract.
Why would you support the owners over the players? I'm a Detroit fan but live in Cincinnati. Mike Brown is a cheap ass who doesn't care.

Owners constantly break contracts by releasing players early. Or playing around with the contract. Chase is doing the only thing he can for leverage aside from faking an injury. The game is too tilted in the owners' favor.

Honestly... all contracts just need to be fully guaranteed and get rid of all the shady cap moves like void years/etc.

Ir's a contract. 2 yrs remaining. Next year is when all this shit should happen.

I do agree that the players union for the NFL is weak. Contracts should be guaranteed. And structured rookie contracts should have escalators built into them if the player outperforms a certain percentage of the league. Easily achieved for skill positions - not as easy for offensive linemen or blocking TEs/FBs.

There is scuttlebutt that Bengals Brass and Chase have resumed talks. I'm not a fan of Mike Brown - that's for sure - but I don't know how much he is actually involved in the day-to-day anymore. He isn't a pimple on his dad's ass.

I like those ideas for contracts. I also wish there were accelerators for certain positions that take a lot of wear and tear like RB for example.

I grew up in Detroit and got to watch Barry so I'll always be a Lions fan but living in Cincinnati, I would like the team to do relatively well. It's good for the area and the ownership of Bengals (and Reds honestly) leave a lot to be desired.

NFL rookie contracts do have performance escalators, but they definitely should be more comprehensive. I think only 2nd through 7th round picks are eligible and they only apply to certain years. The problem before was pay aligning with value, but if value is demonstrated that shouldn’t be an issue.

The NFLPA has gotten its ass handed to them two consecutive negotiations.

I don't think Rnd 1 dudes get a performance incentive. That's for guys outside of the 1st round who participate in x% of teams plays for the season.

The signing bonuses for 1st round dudes are huge, while the annual salaries are team-feiendly. But as far as I know - no available performance bonuses.

Yeah it’s only from the 2nd round on. Initially it was only the 3rd round on, so maybe adjustment will continue.
