12 O Clock High (1949) is another great war movie that focuses on a B-17 bomber squadron. There's nothing flashy about it, just gritty realism about what it takes to do that kind of job.

THAT would be one of the most terrifying jobs in WW2...sitting in a fat slow goose of a plane and getting shot at, see Catch22.

I could handle Uboat duty at 150m better... I think.

I really dont understand... It was fantastic to me...
It was good, however...Band of Brothers did a great job of leading into each epsidoe by giving you a backdrop of the battle and the impact on the war.
The Pacific focused WAYYYY too much on the characters personal lives and relationships outside of the battles.

Band of Brothers followed a specfic group through their duration in WW2 and focused ont he bond that developed in combat.

The Pacific was more about what the horrors of war does to a man's psyche.

Both great shows, Band of Brothers is way better imo.

I literally just finished a re-watch of both BoB and the Pacific.

I feel like the Pacific island hopped (pun intended) through the key battles, without really letting the viewer know the situation and impact of Battles like Iwo Jima, Guadalcanal, Okinawa, etc.....and the aftermaths and how those battles affected the Pacific theater. Band of Brothers did a great job of that. Giving a little factual lead out after each episode. Nothing like that in the Pacific. Way too much shit with Leckie and John Basilone's romantic life outside of the War. It dragged way more than Band of Brothers did.

What is your favorite BoB scene ?

mine. when winters ran up on that group by himself. of course the run was great too.
When Spiers jumps through the mortar shell on his way to relieve Dyke.

But yeah, WInters leading the charge at the crossroads is up there too.

Has anyone seen the Midway movie with Dennis Quaid and Woody Harrelson? Any good? It's on my watchlist, but the trailer made it look kinda meh

My worry is that it's total shit like MIchael Bay's Pearl Harbor movie

Wasn't that one episode and done to REALLY punch up the ending...
Yeah, but then there was the entire lost episode of Leckie meeting the girl while he was on leave and her family, and blah blah blah. Really, that story went nowhere, maybe they were trying to attract female viewership with the focus on all the Romantic plot lines

Also, it's confusing to me whben someone says "I don't care for Spielberg"
Dude is literally responsible for some of the greatest movies of all time.

Jaws
Close Encounters
ET
Raiders/Indy
Jurassic Park
Private Ryan
Empire of the Sun (another great WW2 movie)
Hook
Shindler's List

And if you bring in movies he produced it's stuff like

Goonies
Poltergeist

Is it because he's Jewish?

Most of that list I never cared for...take Jaws for instance, great atmosphere and acting but the terrible roaring shark just ruined it for me. That was way back then.

Fury borrowed the only still operable Tiger tank left in the world from a museum in England

I saw Fury opening night and couldn't believe how bad that ending was...

Rule #1- if your tank is immobile, you are a sitting duck...ambush or no (lol, they killed like 200 nazis), ONE soldier with a rocket and your tank is a bbq. And those were SUPPOSED to be hardened troops.

Pitt takes like 8 30 cal bullets and still looks like a moviestar...yeah disbelief and all that.

The only roaring shark was in Jaws 4 lol

That WAS Shit.

Spielberg only did the first movie.

The first film is one of the few examples of a Perfect movie imo. Raiders is another.

I didn't dig Spielberg movies growing up, besides some of the classics, too family friendly for my taste.

But I doff my hat to his war movies...
