I know I've talked about Church's chicken fried steak before, and how good it is, so I don't want to repeat that here. However, I don't think I've ever talked about their spicey rice. See it on the left in the picture down there? Believe you me when I say its GOOD. Unbelievably good. Like, out of this fuking world good. I highly encourage you guys to try some, you will thank me. Question - does anyone know how to themselves make a good spicey rice? Or "dirty" rice or whatever? Would LOVE a good recipe. Even if it only tasted 1% as good as Church's it would still be awesome...

They probably use pork grease in the rice like Texas Roadhouse...

Oh I did not know Texas Roadhouse does that. Their rice is good as FUK too! I did some digging, and it seems Churches uses some chicken livers in their rice. Never tried chicken livers. But if it makes their rice taste like it does I'm all for it!!!

I have never eaten at a Church's Chicken. We have a couple here, maybe I need to try it one day? I love chicken fried anything, so that steak has piqued my curiosity.

There not bad. Keep your head on a swivel. One of your favorite groups of people. Patronize them frequently.

That rice was my go to side when we had a Church’s here back in the late ‘80s. The fried okra was good too. There was some tie-in to the Hagler-Hearns bout in ‘85 and I had one of their large plastic cups promoting it that I kept for years.

Dayam, I didn't realize that rice went back that far! I just picked up it recently, prolly in the last couple years, when they introduced their chicken fried steak. Makes me sad I didn't try it years ago. I ate the SHIT out of Churche's chicken in college. Not because I thought it was the best chicken ever, but because it was like a couple bucks cheaper than Popeyes and I was poor back then LOL. I ate there at least three or four times a week. And during the mid-late 90s they introduced some fuking Mexican food, trying to compete with like KFC/Taco Bell combos I think. I wasn't that good. But it was CHEAP, and basically free if you had their coupons. I remember going to the Churches on Riverside, Austin, TX, for the second time in the day, and the manager was like, whoa, we got a real Churches fan here, and I was like yea, but I'm here for the free Mexican food this time LOL.

Man, if you ever find that Hagler-Hearns cup, I'll give you a 20 spot for it, straight up...

I just checked and the ones here don't have chicken fried steak on the menu. But they do have fried okras.

How are the fried okras Homeslice @Homeslice ?

Sorry, I missed this UTG. Their fried okra is good. Not ESPECIALLY good, but good, mostly because its impossible to fuk up fried okra. Its frozen of course, and I don't think they ever cook it perfectly (in my mind okra should be fried medium well at least, preferably well done, to be truly delicious), but its still good, enjoyable. But I humbly recommend, if you go to Churches, whatever meet you get, get the mashed potatoes and brown gravy, and the spicey rice, for the side. Dip said meat in said mashed potatoes and brown gravy for the best. Meal. Ever....
