FWIW, a NJ TV station interviewed a man who said he sent his own drone up to take a look at one of them. He said his drone had a full battery. But as soon as it got close to the mystery drone, its battery began to drain rapidly and he had to bring it back before it ran out of power.

I can't believe some asshole with a FPV drone hasn't chased down these mystery drones yet. FPV builds are ghost drones, unlimited by software and untraceable, mostly. At this point I think they'd be received as a hero if someone used one to ID or even down one of these Jersey drones.

Consumer drones have RemoteID which officials can use to ID your drone and it's location history. I bet there's more to it like officials being able to disable or even take control of drones if they want to. Maybe these Jersey drones are using that to run off nosy locals?
