They did let some talent go - mostly to sign that worthless sack of shit Orlando Brown Jr. Huge mistake by whoever evaluated that dude. He was fucking awful all year.

But Lou did not do a good job scheming with what he had until it was too late in the season.

It might be a bit of scapegoating for sure, but you can't have a defense that fucking bad and expect to keep your job.

I wasn't sure they were going to fire him because their squad was young and they played better the last 3 or 4 weeks of the season when they started blitzing more, but him getting whacked doesn't shock me. No fucking idea who they bring in. I'm hearing Dennis Allen.
It didn't matter what Lou was gonna do because that defense is that lacking in talent.

Next to the Panthers the Bengals probably have the least amount of talent.

I don't disagree.
Which makes the scheme all that more important. He chose to be vanilla because of the lack of talent. Later in the season he chose chaos - which is what he should have been doing all along.

He got fired because the players were shitty/inexperienced. But he didn't do himself any favors by being so bland.

This is a really dumb take. So when he has talent he coaches better and they win but when they have bad talent he coaches worse?

Maybe it's more about Jimmy And Joe's over X's and O's. There is a reason why that's a common saying.

Do you plan to get better talent in the future? Yes always...so then it's smarter to keep the coaches you seen able to coach up good players.

He didn't draft this team. Its the Front Office fault.

Also... getting exotic on your play calls is NOT something you want to do with less talent.

Thats how you get giant blown coverages/responsibilities. If they can't play base well, no chance they are going to be able to run disguise blitzes without fucking it up.

I'm not talking exotic. He NEVER blitzed, and other than Hendrickson nobody else EVER got to the QB.

When they started blitzing, they started winning.

The front office does suck.
And some of the jimmy and joes sucked too. But you gotta at least try to coach em up.

Throw a corner blitz in ever now and again. If they score a TD on it who gives a fuck? They were going to do that on the base d anyway like 3 plays later.

It's not that some of them suck. It's that the are one of the worst collection of players in the league. What you are not seeing is that no coach was gonna coach up that squad.

It was an impossible task.

It's impossible if you don't try.
And I saw zero improvement throughout the season with the youngsters. If anything they got worse.

I don't know. Maybe he didn't deserve to be fired. But I didn't see him exhibit any reasons to keep him either.

The reason why you keep him is you seen him coach well when he had talent. The blame is not with a chef for not being able to turn chicken shit to a chicken salad. You blame the person who bought the chicken shit.
