Let's put it this way. If the things were like this in the NFL not nearly as many people would watch.

One interesting thing to think about though. If the courts have ruled that kids can freely move similar to coaches in college what's stopping this from happening in the NFL? Other major sports? CBA's? I can't believe that's where we're headed bc I assume that's the case.

I honestly don't follow professional sports that closely and especially the money side of things. It's what I enjoyed so much about college sports. You always knew money was being exchanged but players were, for the most part, locked in with the school THEY chose.
They should have found a middle ground where they essentially keep everything the same but maybe don't look too hard where that guys parents got a new house from, or who paid for that Ferrari.

If they think this will fix it they're in for a surprise. Hopefully they make contracts that are binding for a minimum of 3 years. I'm Doubtful at this point.

I thought we bro fisted on that point already lol.
Probably so.

Question though...

So a QB (NFL) has a contract he's locked into with stipulations and such. He can't leave until that contract is fulfilled or he retires or he's traded.

A NFL coach can decide to move to a different team as long as a buyout is paid, correct?

I know I'm being vague here but my point is it seems the contracts are completely different. Explain this to me. Remember I don't have a much of a clue how it all works. It's probably just what's agreed to and signed but it seems like in that situation the coaches have a ton more freedom which is what the courts are taking away in college. Yes I understand the contract issue but that doesn't hold coaches in CFB at all.

Hopefully any of that makes sense.

One example is the rookie pay scale. 99% of the contract is in place, no negotiating. That's because the players voted for that. You probably remember guys holding out well into the season. Or rookies being the highest paid player in the league at their position. Long at LT off the top of my head. Vets hated it. So the rookie pay scale was included in the next CBA.

Nothing like that exists for coaches

Players could do it in the NFL if they wanted by doing single year contracts. Not sure if anyone has ever done that though. NFL contracts typically aren't guaranteed anyway, so I'm actually surprised nobody has done it.

Trevor Bauer did that in baseball. 1 year contracts.

I agree this all sucks for the college game. If I'm a college, I'm trying to negotiate a back-loaded 3 year agreement.

Say it's a $15 million deal for 3 years
Season 1: $2 million
Season 2: $3 million
Season 3: $10 million

Something that entices the player to not only stay at one school, but to stay for 3 years.

I could be wrong but I think the closest you really see to one year contracts in the NFL is the franchise tag, which many players hate.

I guess it happens when teams exercise the 5th year option on rookie contracts but good players are getting that second contract and fringe players accept it just to stay in the league

To your point I don't think star players voluntarily choose one year contracts. Though you are seeing more partially guaranteed contracts and/or large signing bonuses, which function in a similar matter I guess

In football more than any other sport one year contracts are way too risky.

SEC strong is basketball and baseball this year. And yeah your coach pulled the ultimate back stab move.
Basketball could realistically get 9 or 10 teams into the tournament. It's going to be a blood bath these next two months. And yeah baseball is always loaded but probably more so with the teams that were added.

Yep. If you count Tuck Fexas as an SEC school, the conference has won half of the last 20 baseball tourneys. And if you count OU, the last 4 final matchups have been all SEC teams.
