I'd like to see South Carolina's index without Myrtle Beach's tourist influx crime added. I'm fairly certain that's the largest contributor to their poor rating.
Only if by "tourist influx crime", you mean Memorial Weekend / black bike week. Maybe some spring breakers, but I doubt that's violent crime. Old man golfers & normal bikers likely aren't as much crime as the locals.

I mean, there's a reason local businesses will stay open during Bike Week & Fall Rally, but close Memorial Weekend if they can. lmao

Golfers I wouldn’t expect much from obviously. I do cigar trades with a guy just outside of MB proper who always states the spring/summer college kid influx that triples the towns population. Bar fights & sex assaults go through the roof during those times, according to him anyway.

I used to live in a small beach town that had similar crime rates heavily influenced by tourism

Oh? Which one if you don't mind me asking?

Yeah, I could see that (bar fights & SAs) completely during spring break & all that. A good friend of mine lives outside of MB (Conway). He likes being able to go to MB, but wouldn't wanna live there. lol. Personally, I like NMB / Cherry Grove better for that reason.

Memorial Weekend, though...holy shit. That's on such an entire other level. Some of the shit I've seen & heard is mind-bottling.

You don't even know what a sample is... Or what you're reading lol.

Let me give you a hint.. A statistic based off the ENTIRE population is NOT a sample. Haha. Or even if you want to call it a sample.. It's a full sample.... Lol it can't be too small or too large... It's a 100% representation of the population.
Violent crime rates are not samples.. They're taken by grabbing raw number or crimes across entire population and dividing by population.

A sample would go out and gather data on a subset of the population and then use that to infer against the total population.

This has nothing to do with what is going on in this thread.

It's ok. Like I said this is just annoying to even have this conversation with you.

Opposite coast. Lived in Morro Bay for about 20yrs. While the crime wasn’t what Pismo gets hit with, due to more families & older crowd vacationing to Morro Bay & kids to Pismo. Morro Bay would get plenty of kids that tried to book Pismo too late & couldn’t find a room.

The second major difference was the areas from which they came. Morro Bay got mainly Fresno tourists while Pismo got Bakersfield. Most people not from the area might not think anything about it but those crowds are completely different. Fresno was farmers & ag business mostly while Bakersfield was oil workers. The Bakersfield oil workers were far more likely to fight with the inevitable gang influx of tourists that also came over from the Valley.

My guess was that those are mostly year round & not as heavily influenced by tourists. If I’m wrong then that was just my own misunderstanding.
Sparkleberry and North Charleston have a lot more violent crime than the Dyrtle. I just double checked and it looks like the Dyrtle overtook North Charleston, last year. And You're right about tourists bringing in a bunch of violent crime to the beach. MB is has been a transient's town for decades, so it's short term and long term tourists bringing a lot of it in, but the Pee Dee has a bunch of ultraviolent natives, too. Spartanburg is right on 85 between Charlotte and Atlanta, and and North Charleston is right on 26 right up from the harbor, both are major drug routes, so there's violence associated with that trade from transient populations as well, but like you said, there, it's mostly the natives.

There are a bunch of even more violent smaller cities and towns sprinkled throughout the state for even more cultural enrichment. But it's like anywhere else, if you mind your business and don't associate with a bunch of shitbags, the likelihood of you experiencing a violent crime is slim to none.

Just the unique demographics. You have a significant minority population that commits crime at a significantly high rate and against that you have a majority that values law and order and is willing to have an aggressive enforcement system to maintain that. Of course you've seen the second part of that break down recently with activists taking over judicial system.

There are waaaaay more violent populations in other countries but there isn't a law abiding capable majority to hold them to account. The Americas are the only place on earth that are truly diverse like that... and USA is pretty unique in its demographics there.

You are headed towards more Brazilian style demographics and with that brings more violence and less law and order.. So I'd imagine unless it's course corrected your incarceration rate will go down while violent crime increases.

I should point out that the USA may have the highest number of incarcerated people in the world it is not per capita.

This gives an overview of things that get you arrested. Drugs make up a good portion, but still tons of violent and other detrimental societal behaviors. And given the rap sheets criminals are able to build, I stand by the thought that we dont have enough people behind bars.
