A drivers license costs money here in Oregon.

"An original standard driver's license costs $64, an ID card costs $47 and a permit is $30.

Renewal of a standard driver's license costs $54, an ID card costs $43 and a permit is $26."
As I said, you use a driver's license. If you don't travel outside of the country you live in, your passport is a paperweight.

National Voter ID with the same identity requirements as a passport, subsidized to avoid any whining about a poll tax. That's a price well worth paying for fairer elections.

All good.
Voting is quite different among the 50 states, I hadn't even really thought of it until now.
It's pretty straightforward here. When you turn 18, if you're eligible you go on the roll. When an election comes up they mail you a voter information card. Which has your name, address, etc on it, and tells you where your poll is. To vote you bring it and a piece of government issued voter ID.

Absentee ballots are very important in alot of northern states where it's literally unsafe to travel that time of year or distances are significant, are important for the elderly who take a risk with any travel, and are obviously imperative for our servicemen and women abroad.
Set up 500 hoops to prove identity & right to participate, no real citizen will complain. Removing ALL mail in ballots, in conjunction with ID/same day paper ballots, would be a net loss for conservatives imo.

What about only allowing taxpayers to vote?

They could pitch it with the slogan "No representation without taxation."

:)
I've got a whole list of people who shouldn't be allowed to vote. You don't pay taxes, you don't get to vote. You don't own property, you don't get to vote. You're a civil servant, you don't get to vote. You're the recipient of a government contract, you don't get to vote. These all pose very obvious conflicts of interest.

Here when you turn 18 you're supposed to register to vote and register for selective service (the draft). It's just what you do. Lots of gen x never did either because they didn't want to war and they didn't want to deal with jury duty and other civic responsibilities.
You give up stuff like grants & loans for college if you go that route.

"Voting is the most important thing!!! Oh, a dusting of snow. Guess I won't be voting this year"

- MountainMedic @MountainMedic , probably
Unlikely, fucknuts.

Most of this state has been under feet of snow since long before the last election. It was a fucking slip & slide, in a very capable jeep, driving into town to vote that day.

I don't know what part of maple slurp country you live in, but apparently they plow your roads and shovel your walks for you on a regular basis.

Why are you even yapping in a thread about not your country?
