Why are the poors even allowed to vote in the first place? What kind of 3rd world shithole has America become? So they're going to be charging people to vote? That's fucked.
Sheesh.

As I said, you use a driver's license. If you don't travel outside of the country you live in, your passport is a paperweight.A drivers license costs money here in Oregon.
"An original standard driver's license costs $64, an ID card costs $47 and a permit is $30.
Renewal of a standard driver's license costs $54, an ID card costs $43 and a permit is $26."
If you want to argue that only property owners should be allowed to vote, I'd agree. But the poors are what swing elections, so...Why are the poors even allowed to vote in the first place? What kind of 3rd world shithole has America become?
Sheesh.
A driver's license or other form of government issues ID doesn't accomplish that?
TrueAs I said, you use a driver's license. If you don't travel outside of the country you live in, your passport is a paperweight.
My point is just that using a passport seems silly because it's a pretty flagrant attempt at charging people to vote.True
I was just saying all those forms of ID cost money where I live, maybe you get them free if you don't have $$$.
That's why you have voter information cards. This isn't fucking rocket appliances.only proves residency of that state.
there are 30 million LEGAL foreigners in the US that get valid state DLs / IDs
All good.My point is just that using a passport seems silly because it's a pretty flagrant attempt at charging people to vote.
What about only allowing taxpayers to vote?If you want to argue that only property owners should be allowed to vote, I'd agree. But the poors are what swing elections, so...
It's pretty straightforward here. When you turn 18, if you're eligible you go on the roll. When an election comes up they mail you a voter information card. Which has your name, address, etc on it, and tells you where your poll is. To vote you bring it and a piece of government issued voter ID.All good.
Voting is quite different among the 50 states, I hadn't even really thought of it until now.
Absentee ballots are very important in alot of northern states where it's literally unsafe to travel that time of year or distances are significant, are important for the elderly who take a risk with any travel, and are obviously imperative for our servicemen and women abroad.
I've got a whole list of people who shouldn't be allowed to vote. You don't pay taxes, you don't get to vote. You don't own property, you don't get to vote. You're a civil servant, you don't get to vote. You're the recipient of a government contract, you don't get to vote. These all pose very obvious conflicts of interest. What about only allowing taxpayers to vote?
They could pitch it with the slogan "No representation without taxation."

You think they still take horse and buggy?Absentee ballots are very important in alot of northern states where it's literally unsafe to travel that time of year or distances are significant
Here when you turn 18 you're supposed to register to vote and register for selective service (the draft). It's just what you do. Lots of gen x never did either because they didn't want to war and they didn't want to deal with jury duty and other civic responsibilities. It's pretty straightforward here. When you turn 18, if you're eligible you go on the roll. When an election comes up they mail you a voter information card. Which has your name, address, etc on it, and tells you where your poll is. No, I've spent most of my life in these places. You think they still take horse and buggy?
Then you know that travel in November isn't that big a deal. No, I've spent most of my life in these places.
What're you, some kind of city boy or something? Then you know that travel in November isn't that big a deal.
how do these voter information cards prove you are a citizen ?That's why you have voter information cards. This isn't fucking rocket appliances.
"Voting is the most important thing!!! Oh, a dusting of snow. Guess I won't be voting this year"What're you, some kind of city boy or something?
They're only issued to eligible voters.how do these voter information cards prove you are a citizen ?
Who is proving/verifying they are eligible ?They're only issued to eligible voters.
What the fuck are you talking about?Who is proving/verifying they are eligible ?
