The Soviets wanted no part of the second world war, and did nothing until they were attacked by the Germans. WW2 ended the way it did because of the Germans spreading themselves too thin by going into Russia. You really should read a non-American history book.

Did I say it was all bad? And who says that I wasn't born in the GDR? And was there when the wall fell? And that I know both systems?
Also, you do know that we had British and French occupied zones as well, right? Its not that simple.
It played out how it played out, and the winners do write history. Speculating is difficult.
I am mostly content in our status right now. But, we are not free of the USA, that much is clear.

I know history but you should also know that once they tasted victory they werent going to stop. Whose side of the continent was better off for the next 50 years?

His point is valid. The Russians would have taken over the whole of Europe had we not been there to stop them.

Actually seems like we pay most of the costs for the occupying force, eh, our welcome friends. About 100 Million Euro per year or so, our tax-money.

Edit: German Embassy in America even claimed 1 Billion per year in 2003 and 2008. I suppose it will not have gotten less by now. Interesting. Real numbers are hard to come by tho.

Watch this. Surely you're aware the Americans weren't going to stop if the Russians didn't put up a big wall. See how that works?

As for what half of the continent was better off for the next 50 years. Well, let's just say it's funny you'd ask that question in a refugee thread.

We stopped because the germans were defeated on all sides at that point. No need to continue. Had it not been for the Russians we would have had to get the germans out of there as well. Of course we would have kept going, the job wouldnt have been finished
